In 2026, we are launching a new series of DFEWA Artists Residencies in Dresden, offering international artists the opportunity to develop their work, explore new creative paths, and build meaningful professional connections. The DFEWA Residencies are designed to foster interdisciplinary exchange and provide a supportive environment where artistic processes can unfold freely. Each residency offers individualized guidance, professional support, and opportunities for public presentation. The entire program is organized by DFEWA e. V. Dresden, Germany. The curators of these residencies are Dorothea Fleiss ( Dora von Grosskarol) and Susanna Fleiss.

Weiran Wang 王蔚然 is a young Chinese baritone with an impressive musical education and a growing international presence. Born in 2001 in Jilin, China, he completed his vocal studies at the Faculty of Music of the Nanjing University of the Arts under Professor Zhou Jie, further refining his craft with renowned teachers such as Dr. Sun Yi and Professor Hei Haitao.
His artistic path includes numerous solo and ensemble performances, among them his 2024 bachelor graduation recital, thematic chamber vocal concerts, and special programs dedicated to Chinese opera. From an early age, he gained stage experience through choir and salon concerts, demonstrating a natural and compelling stage presence.

In 2024, he participated in a masterclass held within the framework of the 60th International Voci Verdiane Competition, highlighting his ambition within the international operatic repertoire. His repertoire spans works by Bach, Haydn, Mendelssohn, Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, and Wolf—reflecting a broad range from sacred music to the Romantic Lied tradition.

With his clear voice, musical sensitivity, and mature stage artistry, Weiran Wang 王蔚然 is an emerging talent on a promising path toward a professional singing career. Since January 2026, he has been a participant of the DFEWA Artists Residency, further expanding his artistic development in an international environment.

Several Western and Eastern artists founded the non-profit association “dorothea fleiss & east‑west artists” (DFEWA) for professional artists in January 1998. The purpose of our association is to create a solid foundation for cooperation between artists from Eastern and Western countries.

Our aim is to encourage and strengthen cultural and artistic exchange between outstanding artists shaped by different historical and cultural backgrounds. This dialogue between East and West is enriched by the close contact artists from around the world maintain with one another and with our association.

Between 2000 and 2025, more than 1,400 artists from 49 countries have participated in our DFEWA Residencies and in group exhibitions held across both regions — in Germany, China, Romania, Hungary, Serbia, France, Turkey, Austria, Morocco, Italy, Montenegro, India, the USA, and Chile. Through their participation, these artists contribute to fostering a broader understanding of contemporary art in each respective part of the world.

Wir freuen uns sehr auf die Zusammenarbeit und fühlen uns geehrt, Teil dieses großartigen Projekts zu sein.
Es ist inspirierend, so viele talentierte Künstler:innen in Ulcinj versammelt zu sehen, und wir sind dankbar, zu diesem lebendigen Austausch von Ideen und Kreativität beitragen zu dürfen.

Kunst als Brücke zwischen Kulturen – Mirela Trăistaru bei DFEWA e. V.
Wir freuen uns, die rumänische Künstlerin Mirela Trăistaru als Resident Artist im Rahmen der internationalen Symposien von DFEWA e. V. begrüßt zu haben. Ihre vielseitige künstlerische Praxis – von Malerei über Bodypainting bis hin zu Bühnenbild – bereichert den interkulturellen Dialog, den unser Verein seit Jahrzehnten fördert.
Ihre Teilnahme hat nicht nur das künstlerische Spektrum erweitert, sondern auch wertvolle Impulse für den Austausch zwischen Ost und West gesetzt.

Wir sind sehr dankbar, dass Joann Morning vom 10. bis 20. Juni 2025 unsere DFEWA Artist-in-Residence war. Die Zeit war geprägt von einem intensiven und inspirierenden künstlerischen Austausch – voller Tiefe, Offenheit und gegenseitiger Neugier.

Besonders bereichernd waren die Atelierbesuche bei Csaba Lazin in Petrifeld, die spannende Einblicke in seine Arbeitsweise ermöglichten, sowie die Begegnungen mit der Geschichte und Kultur der Region.

Ein weiteres Highlight war die eindrucksvolle Ausstellung „Frământări interioare“ von Dorel Petrehuș im Muzeul Țării Oașului in Negrești-Oaș – ein emotionaler und kraftvoller Blick in die Seele eines Künstlers, der tief mit seiner Gemeinschaft verwurzelt ist.

Danke, Joann, für deine Präsenz, deine Kunst und deine Offenheit. Wir freuen uns auf alles, was aus dieser Begegnung noch entstehen wird!

We are truly grateful that Joann Morning joined us as a DFEWA Artist-in-Residence from June 10 to 20, 2025, in Großkarol (Carei), Transylvania.

Her presence brought a spirit of openness, curiosity, and deep artistic reflection. During her stay, we engaged in meaningful conversations, shared creative processes, and explored the cultural richness of the region together.

One of the highlights was our visit to the studio of Csaba Lazin in Petrifeld — an inspiring encounter with his artistic world and personal philosophy. We also had the chance to explore local history and traditions, which added depth and context to the residency experience.

Another unforgettable moment was the exhibition “Frământări interioare” by Dorel Petrehuș at the Muzeul Țării Oașului in Negrești-Oaș. The emotional intensity and authenticity of his work resonated deeply with all of us.

Die European International Book Art Biennale (EIBAB) Ukraine ist eine bedeutende künstlerische Veranstaltung, die Widerstandskraft, Kreativität und kulturellen Austausch in den Fokus rückt. Das Thema 2025, „Memories of the Future“, erforscht die Verbindung zwischen Vergangenheit und Zukunft und setzt sich mit der Bewahrung von Erinnerungen und der Schaffung neuer künstlerischer Visionen auseinander.
Kuratiert von Dorothea Fleiss und Yevheniia Hryhoryan, vereint die Biennale Künstlerinnen und Künstler aus verschiedenen Ländern. „Diese Biennale ist ein Zeichen dafür, dass Kunst niemals verstummt – selbst in den dunkelsten Zeiten,“ betont Fleiss.
„Memories of the Future“ – Kunst als Zeitbrücke
Erinnerungen sind oft ein Fenster in die Vergangenheit, doch durch Kunst werden sie zu Entwürfen für die Zukunft. Das Künstlerbuch als intimes und greifbares Medium bietet Raum für Geschichte, persönliche Narrative und imaginierte Zukunftsbilder. Indem Erinnerungen dokumentiert, transformiert und neu interpretiert werden, eröffnen Künstler einen Dialog darüber, was bleibt, was sich verändert und was noch entsteht.
Die Biennale hebt das Künstlerbuch als Medium der Bewahrung und Neuerfindung hervor. In Zeiten gesellschaftlichen Wandels und globaler Umbrüche bewahren Bücher die stummen Stimmen vergangener Erfahrungen und zugleich die visionäre Kraft kommender Generationen.

" The book has a long history and tradition, but since the beginning of the 20th century it has started to disappear physically and become virtual. The object book/artist book is a creative method that allows the artist maximum freedom of expression through extended forms and methods as well as through the choice of techniques and different materials - from handmade paper, textiles, metal, glass or ceramics. Even if some artists create limited editions, these works remain unique.
The object book/artist book deals, among other things, with a fundamental theme, namely the relationship between text/literature and painting/installation. It is a fascinating field that encompasses a wide range of artistic expressions and is characterized by a multitude of influences and trends.
In contemporary art, the object book is a living and dynamic art form, which is constantly evolving. It has become an important part of the contemporary art scene and deserves to be discovered and appreciated." ( Dorothea Fleiss PhD, curator)
