Scale changes everything. At 100 × 120 cm, the vertical band becomes a threshold — you do not look at it, you stand before it.

"Clarity 6" (2020), from Clarity — oil on canvas, 100 × 120 cm.

The same gesture, enlarged, transforms from mark to monument. The surface holds the memory of every layer beneath. Clarity, at this scale, is not simplification but accumulation — the visible record of decisions made and remade.

Two fields of colour meet at a horizon that is not a horizon. The upper register breathes; the lower holds its ground.

"Clarity 5" (2020), from Clarity — oil on canvas, 30 × 42 cm.

There is a dialogue between restraint and release. Narvida does not resolve it — she lets the tension exist as its own kind of truth. The painting asks nothing of you but attention.

A single vertical band of light cuts through the darkness — not decorative, but necessary. The eye follows it downward, drawn by something it cannot name.

"Clarity 4" (2020), from the series Clarity — oil on canvas, 30 × 42 cm.

In this small format, Narvida compresses an entire argument about presence and absence. The band of colour is both barrier and bridge. Clarity, here, is not transparency but the courage to mark a boundary.

Light falls across a shoulder, tracing the architecture of a pause. The palette is restrained — umbers, ochres, the quiet grey of skin in shadow.

"Look how I move 16" (2022), from Look How I Move — oil on linen, 80 × 100 cm.

There is intimacy in the way Narvida withholds. The figure does not perform for the viewer; it simply exists, and we are allowed to witness. A moment suspended between breath and the next.

A figure caught mid-gesture, the linen holding the echo of motion. Oil paint renders weight and weightlessness in the same breath.

"Look how I move 15" (2022), from the series Look How I Move — oil on linen, 100 × 120 cm.

The body speaks in a language older than words. Here, movement is not depicted but invoked — each brushstroke a decision to let the gesture remain open, unfinished, alive.

Time made visible in oil on linen — Kristine Narvida opens her new solo exhibition "The Study of Time" at the City Museum of Heppenheim in Hessen.

The Study of Time · City Museum of Heppenheim, Heppenheim
21 September – 16 November 2026 · Opening: Sunday 21 September, 11:00
Opening hours: Tue–Sun 10:00–17:00

This series explores the tension between transience and eternity, between movement and stillness. The canvas becomes a place where time becomes visible: as an echo of memory, a trace of the moment, a dialogue between body and space.

We warmly invite you to experience the work in person.

Time is not what we measure, but what permeates us — fleeting, intangible, yet present in every brushstroke. "The Study of Time" (2025, oil on linen, 123 × 170 cm) opens the new series at monumental scale. Figures hover between movement and stillness, memory and the present.

The canvas becomes a place where time becomes visible: as an echo of memory, a trace of the moment, a dialogue between body and space.

The twelfth study. The argument reaches a kind of resolution — not peace, but clarity. "The Study of Annoyance 12" (2023, oil on linen, 80 × 100 cm) holds the final word in this sequence: a yellow band, a red field, the silence between them made visible.

The search for context, the wish to escape, and the inability to do so.

Two large works, same dimensions, different voices. "The Study of Annoyance 11" (2023, oil on linen, 80 × 100 cm) echoes its predecessor but the yellow has deepened — more ochre, more weight. The series thinks aloud across the canvas.

A passionate look at the present, where the surface of things and the superficiality of people are so truly full of meaning and pain.
