Today @ the ESTA international congress: Viva Violas! -concert displays Finnish viola education in all levels, and players from almost beginners to professionals. The orchestras are conducted by Vuokko Lahtinen and Johanna Paananen.

Ellen Herler is the amazing soloist in Paul Hindemith’s Trauermusik, and the Grandissimo viola orchestra combines everything by playing Nuoruustango (Youth tango), an arrangement by Teppo Alimattila for this special event.

Suomen alttoviuluseura SAVS ja Suomen Jousisoitonopettajat SJO järjestävät yhteistyössä alttoviuluteemaisen konsertin Helsingin kansainvälisessä ESTA-kongressissa! Torstaina 27.8. klo 17 Sibelius-Akatemian R-talon konserttisalissa järjestettävä konsertti on osa kongressin ohjelmaa, ja siksi avoinna vain kongressivieraille.

Konsertissa esiintyy alttoviulisteja lähes vasta-alkajista huippuammattilaisiin. Konserttia varten kootuissa orkestereissa soittaa altisteja ympäri Suomea aina pääkaupunkiseudulta Oulun korkeudelle asti. Myös yleisö pääsee osallistumaan konsertin päättävään Teppo Alimattilalta tilattuun jättialttoviuluorkesterille sovitukseen Chydeniuksen Nuorisotangosta.

Wondering what else you may need to have in your violin case for back-to-school? 🎻

1. Make sure you pack a spare set of your favorite strings and some rosin! As you might have seen in our previous post, there are many strings available as well for smaller-sized instruments. In addition we have rosins that pair particularly well with each of our string brands, helping bring out their full potential.

2. Also make sure to pack any important accessories in the case that you will need for playing. The PIRASTRO KorfkerRest LUNA is a featherlight shoulder rest with a design that minimizes acoustic interference, allowing the instrument to vibrate freely while maintaining a rich, resonant dynamic range.

3. Always make sure to pack a companion that brings you confidence on stage and for rehearsal time some pencils, so you're ready to take all those notes.

4. Finally, a cleaning cloth is an essential part of any violin case. After playing, wipe away any remaining rosin from the strings with a soft, dry cloth. This helps preserve the sound, response, and volume of the strings as well as your instrument's varnish. With our peg compound you can keep the pegs smooth that helps to make tuning of your strings simple and easy.

Need to install fresh strings for the new school year? 🎻 Before you start changing them, here are a few tips to make sure everything goes smoothly.

1️⃣ Change one string at a time to maintain the tension across the instrument.

2️⃣ Keep the string windings neat and parallel on the pegs to prevent overlap.

3️⃣ Tune to pitch, never above it. Steel strings can be particularly sensitive to over-tuning.

4️⃣ Keep an eye on the bridge before, during, and after tuning. Make sure it stays correctly positioned and perpendicular to the top of the instrument.

These easy steps will help prevent accidents that might damage your instrument.
