Dorothea van der Koelen (*1960) ist seit รผber 30 Jahren selbststรคndige Kunstvermittlerin aus Passion. Aufgewachsen in einem humanistisch geprรคgten kรผnstlerischen Elternhaus, entschied sie sich schon vor dem Studium der Kunstgeschichte, Philosophie, Buchwissenschaft und Romanistik (an der Gutenberg-Universitรคt in Mainz) ihr Leben und Wirken zeitgenรถssischer Kunst zu widmen. Mittlerweile ist sie mit drei Galerien in Mainz und Venedig prรคsent und hat in รผber 500 Ausstellungen in mehr als 25 Lรคndern auf sรคmtlichen Kontinenten ihre kuratorischen Fรคhigkeiten unter Beweis gestellt und einen reichen Erfahrungsschatz gesammelt. Um diesen an nachfolgende Generationen weiterzugeben hat sie vor einigen Jahren die โ€บvan der Koelen Stiftung fรผr Kunst und Wissenschaftโ€น gegrรผndet. Sie eroberte mit ihren Kรผnstlern den รถffentlichen Raum, hat zahlreiche Kunst-am-Bau-Projekte realisiert und wurde zur Schnittstelle zwischen Kunstmarkt und wissenschaftlicher Forschungsarbeit. Gleichzeitig lieรŸ sie nichts unversucht, um Kunst fรผr das breite Publikum zu kommunizieren und realisierte zahlreiche Kooperationen mit Museen und รถffentlichen Ausstellungsinstituten weltweit. Das bestimmt den globalen Aspekt ihrer Tรคtigkeit. In Vortrรคgen, Zeitschriften und Bรผchern hat sie zahlreiche Aufsรคtze zur zeitgenรถssischen Kunst publiziert und sich mit dem โ€บChorus-Verlagโ€น auch als Verlegerin einen Namen gemacht, mehr als 150 Publikationen zur zeitgenรถssischen Kunst verรถffentlicht, bedeutende ล’uvre-Kataloge herausgegeben und die ZEITRAUM-Zeitung fรผr aktuelle Kunst ins Leben gerufen. Als Jurorin und Evaluatorin ist sie in zahlreichen Gremien fรผr Stipendien, Wettbewerbe, Kunstpreise, Hochschulstrukturen etc. Die Dr. van der Koelen Consulting berรคt Firmen beim Aufbau ihrer Sammlung und Gestaltung ihres Marketingkonzeptes im Kunstbereich. Auch als selbstรคndige Unternehmerin hat Dorothea van der Koelen sich Fรคhigkeiten erworben, ihre verschiedenen Geschรคftszweige aufgebaut und Erfahrungen gesammelt. โ™ป๏ธ The exhibition primarily features objects made of ๐ฆ๐จ๐ฅ๐ญ๐ž๐ง ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐š๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐œ, created with the help of a ๐ฌ๐ž๐ฅ๐Ÿ-๐๐ž๐ฌ๐ข๐ ๐ง๐ž๐ ๐ซ๐จ๐›๐จ๐ญ, known as an extruder. The technique is based on the operating principle of a 3-D printer. The creative process gives rise to a fascinating interplay between machine and human. The robot acts as a partner, melting the recyclable plastic into a liquid state as well as mixing it with selected color pigments and extruding it through a nozzle. Each work is unique, as its creation process can never be replicated exactly.

๐Ÿ“Œ The result is captivating, sensuous snake-like, colorful formations that sometimes intertwine into Fluff-y, creative tangles or else into Flower bouquets.

๐Ÿ“Œ The VdU - Association of Women Entrepreneurs in Germany (Verband der Unternehmerinnen) has been representing the interests of female entrepreneurs across all sectors since 1954. For over 70 years, it has been committed to increasing female entrepreneurship and the number of women in leadership positions, as well as improving conditions for women in business.

๐Ÿ“Œ Gallerist and art historian Dr. Dorothea van der Koelen had the pleasure to invite members of the VdU to visit her in the lagoon city and explore the cityโ€™s cultural offerings together, including, not least, the 61st Art Biennale as well as the grand exhibition on occasion of the 25 year gallery anniversary of La Galleria Venezia entitled ๐ด๐‘Ÿ๐‘ก ๐ต๐‘’๐‘ฆ๐‘œ๐‘›๐‘‘ ๐ต๐‘œ๐‘ข๐‘›๐‘‘๐‘Ž๐‘Ÿ๐‘–๐‘’๐‘ .

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ The three-day program โ€“ featuring stops such as the Kosuth and Lee Ufan exhibitions, many exciting Biennale pavilions, and, of course, the highly acclaimed exhibition by paper artist Lore Bert in the Church of San Fantin entitled ๐‘‡๐‘œ๐‘ค๐‘Ž๐‘Ÿ๐‘‘๐‘  ๐‘กโ„Ž๐‘’ ๐ฟ๐‘–๐‘”โ„Ž๐‘ก โ€“ had plenty to offer.

๐Ÿ”ต The predominant color selected for the exhibited works is ๐›๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ž: if on the one had it connects to the idea of departure and new beginnings โ€“ whether a journey to the blue sea or a liberating gaze at a radiant blue sky โ€“ on the other one it recalls the real-life flight of people from economic hardship or political persecution.

๐Ÿ”ต Sebastian Dannenberg creates here a unique path in which sculptural metal works and installations as well as paintings and prints find their place, stimulating a continuous dialogue between ๐ฉ๐š๐ข๐ง๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐  and ๐ฌ๐ฉ๐š๐œ๐ž.

Following the passing of video art legend Fabrizio Plessi on August 23, 2026, we are dedicating our video of the week to the life and work of this Venetian by choice, who spent a large part of his artistic journey alongside gallerist and art historian Dr. Dorothea van der Koelen.

Our annual summer festival, which took place this year on August 15 at Cadoro โ€“ Center for Art and Science in Mainz-Hechtsheim, was once again a great success. Art lovers from near and far flocked to the city on the Main to celebrate art with us in a summery atmosphere.

๐Ÿ“Œ Spanning three floors, we opened new exhibitions that have a lot to offer, ranging from established leading international artists to innovative young talents.
On the ground floor, ๐‘†๐‘’๐‘๐‘Ž๐‘ ๐‘ก๐‘–๐‘Ž๐‘› ๐ท๐‘Ž๐‘›๐‘›๐‘’๐‘›๐‘๐‘’๐‘Ÿ๐‘” () and ๐ถ๐‘Ž๐‘Ÿ๐‘œ๐‘™๐‘–๐‘› ๐ฟ๐‘–๐‘’๐‘๐‘™ & ๐‘๐‘–๐‘˜๐‘œ๐‘™๐‘Ž๐‘  ๐‘†๐‘โ„Ž๐‘š๐‘–๐‘‘-๐‘ƒ๐‘“๐‘Žฬˆโ„Ž๐‘™๐‘’๐‘Ÿ(Carolin Liebl and Nikolas Schmid-Pfaฬˆhler) share the exhibition space while ๐‘ƒโ„Ž๐‘–๐‘™๐‘–๐‘๐‘ ๐‘๐‘’รŸ๐‘™๐‘’๐‘Ÿ & ๐ฝ๐‘ข๐‘™๐‘–๐‘Ž ๐‘†๐‘’๐‘–๐‘“๐‘Ÿ๐‘–๐‘’๐‘‘ (Philipp Nessler, ) showcase their works on the 1st floor.

For our popular , which was officially opened on Saturday August 15, the artist duo Philipp NeรŸler & Julia Seifried (Philipp Nessler & ) presented a new exhibition titled ๐‘ถ๐’“๐’…๐’Š๐’๐’‚๐’“๐’š ๐‘ป๐’‰๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ๐’”, which was enthusiastically received by the audience.
The title ๐‘‚๐‘Ÿ๐‘‘๐‘–๐‘›๐‘Ž๐‘Ÿ๐‘ฆ ๐‘‡โ„Ž๐‘–๐‘›๐‘”๐‘  gives away what the work is about: โ€บordinary, or ๐ž๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ๐ฒ๐๐š๐ฒ ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ฌโ€น. But these are โ€“ sometimes literally โ€“ turned ๐ฎ๐ฉ๐ฌ๐ข๐๐ž ๐๐จ๐ฐ๐ง.

There is a high-gloss lacquered conductorโ€™s podium lying upside down on the floor, making you want to turn it right side up immediately; in another, box-like object, handrails are mounted but serve as a footrest. But if you were to try to turn the box into the correct position, the golden confetti stored inside would spill out. In the case of a mobile frame consisting of metal rods mounted on a wooden box, the casters protrude upward into the air.

Fabrizio Plessi, a Venetian by choice and pioneer of video art, leaves an indelible mark on contemporary art. We are deeply saddened by his passing and remember with gratitude his long-standing friendship with Dr. Dorothea van der Koelen, La Galleria in Venice and Cadoro Center for Art and Science in Mainz (Germany).
His visionary dialogue between water, technology, matter and memory will continue to inspire.
