NEW: Under the Milky Way
Abstraction, Autonomy, and Post-Vandalistic Tendencies in Contemporary Art
The book accompanying the exhibition “Under the Milky Way” at Kunstverein Hannover is here, bringing together key figures from heterogeneous urban and artistic scenes across Europe – between abstraction, autonomy, conceptual rigor, irony, and anarchic approaches.
The outdoors became a school, the urban underground a studio, and unrestricted anti-authoritarianism replaced the influence of the academy and the market. Some of the artists come from graffiti, others studied painting, while still others began as urban explorers working in places where they had to evade the authorities. The resulting practices are now increasingly entering institutional spaces.
