The Kunstverein in Hamburg is delighted to announce the second instalment of Hanne Darboven’s House Revisited, a symposium dedicated to the life and work of Hanne Darboven held at the former home of the artist in Harburg.

Darboven’s house is and was a multitude of things: it was her family home (and one of the oldest buildings in the region), it was her studio, it was something between a gallery and a place for storage, and it can be considered essential not only to Darboven’s life but also to her artistic oeuvre; it is thus a significant means by which to understand the artist Hanne Darboven.

Working into the motif of the house, the symposium will take place on Saturday, October 3, beginning at 11 am, with contributions from Matilde Guidelli-Guidi, Sharon Kivland, Nick Mauss and Ken Okiishi, Miriam Schoofs, and William Stewart. Der Kunstverein in Hamburg freut sich, die zweite Ausgabe von Hanne Darboven’s House Revisited, einem Symposium, das dem Leben und Werk von Hanne Darboven gewidmet ist und in der Villa der Darboven Familie in Harburg stattfindet.

Darbovens Haus ist und war vieles zugleich: Es war ihr Familienhaus (und eines der ältesten Gebäude der Region), es war ihr Atelier, es war etwas zwischen einer Galerie und einem Lagerraum, und es kann nicht nur für Darbovens Leben, sondern auch für ihr künstlerisches Œuvre als wesentlich angesehen werden; es ist somit ein wichtiges Mittel, um die Künstlerin Hanne Darboven zu verstehen.
Das Symposium, das sich mit dem Motiv des Hauses auseinandersetzt, findet am Samstag, dem 3. Oktober, ab 11 Uhr statt, mit Beiträgen von Matilde Guidelli-Guidi, Sharon Kivland, Nick Mauss and Ken Okiishi, Miriam Schoofs, und William Stewart

Artist Eda Aslan will lead a guided tour of the exhibitions A Nail to Hang the Day On, Nina Porter: Sample Question and I feel it all on Saturday, September 5, at 2 PM. The tour will be conducted in Turkish, and no registration is required.

Die Künstlerin Eda Aslan wird am Samstag, dem 5. September, um 14 Uhr eine Führung durch die Ausstellungen A Nail to Hang the Day On, Nina Porter: Sample Question und I feel it all geben. Die Führung findet auf Türkisch statt, eine Anmeldung ist nicht erforderlich.

With Text heißt Gewebe II (Text Means Fabric II), the Kunstverein continues its exploration of writing as an artistic practice. Writing is treated here as a practice in which thoughts take shape and meaning is generated through the process of writing. Writing is carried out using bodies and tools, on surfaces and in spaces, within specific technical, economic and institutional conditions. Writing can thus be understood as a texture: as a material and spatial arrangement of signs, as a fabric of relationships in which text is read, shifted, crossed out, repeated, published and circulated.
The second part of the series focuses on three constellations: the relationship between art, writing and the economy; the relationships between body and text; and publishing as an integral part of textual practice. The contributions explore the material and social conditions under which texts emerge, the bodies and practices involved in their creation, and how writing can be understood in terms of its modes of production and circulation.

Mit Text heißt Gewebe II setzt der Kunstverein die Beschäftigung mit Schreiben als künstlerischer Praxis fort. Schreiben wird dabei als eine Praxis verhandelt, in der Gedanken ihre Form annehmen und Bedeutung im Prozess des Schreibens hervorgebracht wird. Geschrieben wird mit Körpern und Werkzeugen, innerhalb bestimmter technischer, ökonomischer und institutioneller Bedingungen. Schrift lässt sich so als eine Textur verstehen: als materielle und räumliche Anordnung von Zeichen, als Gefüge von Beziehungen, in dem gelesen, verschoben, gestrichen, wiederholt, publiziert und zirkuliert wird.
Der zweite Teil richtet den Blick auf drei Konstellationen: das Verhältnis von Kunst, Schreiben und Ökonomie, die Beziehungen zwischen Körper und Text sowie das Publizieren als Bestandteil textlicher Praxis. In den Beiträgen wird danach gefragt, unter welchen materiellen und sozialen Bedingungen Texte entstehen, welche Körper und Praktiken an ihnen beteiligt sind und wie sich Schreiben ausgehend von seinen Produktions- und Zirkulationsweisen verstehen lässt.

Nina Porter: "Sample Question"
June 5 - September 22, 2026

There is an attention to lived perceptual experience in Sample Question, and yet the works presented here also point to the limits of physical presence. They are the yield of a practice interested in qualities more readily felt than seen, where vision is destabilised in the hierarchy of the senses. Although many of the works are dependent on formal properties, Porter’s efforts ultimately lead towards a central and immaterial knowledge.

In Sample Question die präsentierten Arbeiten verweisen auf die Grenzen physischer Präsenz, dabei erfährt die gelebte Wahrnehmungserfahrung Aufmerksamkeit. Die Arbeiten sind das Ergebnis einer Praxis, die sich jenen Qualitäten auseinandersetzt, die eher zu fühlen als zu sehen sind—eine Praxis, in der das Sehen innerhalb der Hierarchie der Sinne destabilisert wird. Wenngleich viele der Arbeiten auf formalen Qualitäten beruhen, führen Porters Bestrebungen letztlich hin zu einem immateriellen Wissen.

As part of the exhibition A Nail to Hang the Day On, the Kunstverein in Hamburg is hosting an artist talk on Wednesday 2 September with Georges Adéagbo and his long-standing collaborator Dr Stephan Köhler. Together with Dr Martin Karcher, they will discuss Adéagbo’s artistic practice, which, since the early 1970s, has combined found objects, texts, images and specially commissioned objects to create multi-layered installations. The focus will be on questions of memory and historiography, colonial continuities and the relationship between different cultural perspectives. The discussion also offers an insight into a collaboration that has accompanied and helped shape Adéagbo’s international exhibition practice since the 1990s. Afterwards, the audience is invited to join in the discussion.

To mark the awarding of the 2024 Edwin Scharff Prize to Georges Adéagbo, the Kunstverein will be open on Wednesday 9 September 2026 until 8 pm.

Im Rahmen der Ausstellung A Nail to Hang the Day On lädt der Kunstverein in Hamburg am Mittwoch, dem 2. September, zu einem Artist Talk mit Georges Adéagbo und seinem langjährigen Wegbegleiter Dr. Stephan Köhler ein.Gemeinsam mit Dr. Martin Karcher sprechen sieüber Adéagbos künstlerische Praxis, die seit den frühen 1970er Jahren Fundstücke, Texte, Bilder und eigens angefertigte Objekte zu vielschichtigen Installationen verbindet. Im Zentrum stehen Fragen nach Erinnerung und Geschichtsschreibung, kolonialen Kontinuitäten und dem Verhältnis unterschiedlicher kultureller Perspektiven. Das Gespräch gibt zugleich Einblick in eine Zusammenarbeit, die seit den 1990er Jahren Adéagbos internationale Ausstellungspraxis begleitet und mitgeprägt hat. Im Anschluss ist das Publikum eingeladen, sich am Gespräch zu beteiligen.

Anlässlich der Verleihung des Edwin Scharff Preises 2024 an Georges Adéagbo ist der Kunstverein am Mittwoch, dem 09. September 2026 bis 20 Uhr geöffnet.
