The Frankfurt Gallery Weekend Saisonstart returns for edition #32! Opening simoultaneously 50+ exhibition on Friday, September 4, this year’s program highlights an art scene that feels more international, diverse, and vibrant each year.

Joining 10,000 expected visitors from Sept 4–6, explore everything contemporary art has to offer: local young, international, q***r, and multimedia positions; iconic figures of German art history; fresh works from the Städel, Düsseldorf, and Leipzig academies; and international positions straight from Seoul, Paris, Milan, and London.

We are very pleased to present the solo exhibition Chroma, featuring works by Mark Francis. Please note our opening hours for this special weekend:

Rather than tracing a linear development, continuo brings together works from different bodies of ’s practice, allowing them to enter into new constellations. Paintings created across several years encounter one another without hierarchy, revealing unexpected correspondences that extend beyond the boundaries of individual series.

Viewed together, recurring gestures, chromatic transitions and shifting spatial structures begin to resonate across the exhibition. What emerges is less a retrospective survey than a carefully composed dialogue, in which each work subtly reframes the next and meaning unfolds through their relationships.

The exhibition continuo takes its title from the Latin continuus, meaning “holding together” or “uninterrupted.” Rather than describing permanence, the term evokes a state of ongoing relation—one in which individual elements remain connected while continuously transforming.

This understanding of continuity resonates throughout Giacomo Santiago Rogado’s paintings. Colour, gesture and form are not conceived as fixed entities but as parts of an evolving visual syntax. Relationships emerge gradually, dissolve and reappear, allowing each work to remain open, shifting between structure and flux.

On view at Bernhard Knaus Fine Art through 29 August, continuo offers a final opportunity to experience these works in dialogue before the exhibition closes.

Bernhard Prinz has developed a singular photographic practice in which image and reality, memory and fiction, continuously enter into dialogue. His meticulously composed works draw upon the visual languages of photography, painting, architecture and allegory, transforming familiar motifs into quietly enigmatic images. With a precise and highly refined sense of composition, Prinz explores the ways in which images shape perception and how meaning emerges through the act of looking. His work reveals photography not simply as a medium of representation, but as a space of construction, association and memory. Across his oeuvre, subtle shifts in scale, perspective and context create moments of ambiguity that invite a closer, more attentive gaze. On the occasion of his birthday, we celebrate Bernhard Prinz and his enduring artistic vision, wishing him many more years of curiosity, discovery and inspiring new perspectives.

Only until 29 August, Continuo presents a selection of works by that reflect his ongoing exploration of colour, perception, and the materiality of painting.

At the heart of the exhibition are works from the Coalescence series. Built through carefully layered applications of acrylic and oil paint, the circular compositions unfold through subtle chromatic shifts that reveal themselves gradually with changing light and the viewer's movement. Oscillating between optical precision and atmospheric depth, the works challenge the boundaries between surface and space, inviting a sustained act of looking.

In Continuo, Coalescence becomes part of a broader dialogue on continuity and transformation—where colour, form, and perception remain in constant flux.

Opening | Mark Francis: Chroma

Bernhard Knaus Fine Art is pleased to present Chroma, an exhibition of new paintings by Northern Irish artist .

Working in abstraction, Francis explores the relationship between colour, rhythm, and perception. Drawing on structures that evoke scientific models—from cellular systems and crystalline formations to complex networks—his paintings negotiate precision and openness, order and dissolution.

Through vibrating fields of colour, pulsating linear compositions, and subtle layers of paint, Chroma creates a perceptual space in which visual and sonic experience converge, inviting colour to be experienced as rhythm, resonance, and movement.

.hinteregger has developed a distinctive artistic practice that continuously questions the traditional boundaries of painting. At the centre of his work is an ongoing investigation into the fundamental elements of the medium: line, colour, surface, and structure.

Through a rigorous and highly precise process, Hinteregger transforms everyday materials into complex visual compositions. Whether working with ink, tape, or other carefully selected materials, he explores their inherent qualities and possibilities, allowing the characteristics of each medium to shape the work itself. Repetition, reduction, and a deep sensitivity to materiality define a practice in which time and process become integral parts of the image.

His works occupy a space between painting and drawing, image and object. Through subtle shifts in density, rhythm, and surface, they invite a close examination of how we perceive colour, form, and space. Hinteregger’s oeuvre demonstrates how a restrained artistic vocabulary can open up a wide field of visual experience.

The final days of Paradaidha at and The Painting is a Door at , Burgdorf, are here. Both exhibitions, featuring an impressive selection of works by Dutch artist , including several monumental paintings, remain on view until 30 August.

To mark the closing of Paradaidha, join us for a special Artist Talk with Robert Zandvliet on 29 August at 3 pm, moderated by Dr León Krempel, Director of Kunsthalle Darmstadt.

This is a rare opportunity to hear the artist reflect on his practice, his approach to colour, space and landscape, and the ideas behind the large-scale works on view.

For decades, has developed a distinctive painterly practice shaped by references to art history, literature, mythology, and symbolism. His works draw on images deeply embedded in our collective visual memory, reconfiguring familiar motifs into layered and unexpected constellations. Figures, animals, and symbols appear in new contexts, opening pictorial spaces that deliberately resist fixed interpretation.

Executed with remarkable precision and a subtle balance between representation and ambiguity, Stefan à Wengen's paintings invite sustained viewing. Rather than offering clear narratives, they encourage reflection on memory, perception, and the ways images acquire and transform meaning over time.

We are delighted to have represented Stefan à Wengen's work over the years and wish him a very happy birthday today.

Anlässlich der Veröffentlichung seines dritten Romans Fake Stories lädt die Galerie Bernhard Knaus Fine Art zu einer Lesung mit ein.

Im Zentrum des Romans stehen vier Menschen an einem Wendepunkt ihres Lebens. Aus Schuld, Erinnerung und Selbsttäuschung entsteht ein vielschichtiges Geflecht unterschiedlicher Wirklichkeiten. Fake Stories untersucht die Frage, wie Wahrheit entsteht - und wie sie sich durch die Geschichten verändert, die wir über uns selbst erzählen.

Gerhard Kebbel liest inmitten der aktuellen Ausstellung “continuo” mit Werken von aus seinem neuen Roman und spricht über dessen Entstehung. Im Anschluss besteht Gelegenheit zum Gespräch und zur Signatur.
