New York Vibes on Screen 🍿

As part of our public programme for the exhibition "Jamel Shabazz. New York Vibes", we are presenting the special film programme “New York Vibes on Screen” in partnership with Harmonie, Cinema & Eldorado: Arthouse Kinos Frankfurt. Across three evenings, a selection of iconic films explores the cultural vibrancy and social realities of New York in the 1980s and 1990s, that Jamel Shabazz captured in his photographs. From hip-hop culture and street life to questions of community, identity and social inequality, the selected films offer a compelling cinematic perspective on the world depicted in the exhibition.

📅3 November 2026, 6 pm | Beat Street (1984) by Stan Lathan | Cinéma Kino

📅1 December 2026, 6 pm | Clockers (1995) by Spike Lee | Cinéma Kino

An additional film will be shown as a surprise screening on 30 November 2026, 8.30 pm as part of the “Milestones” series.

Our two new exhibitions are now on view at The Cube in Eschborn: “Jamel Shabazz. New York Vibes” and “Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize 2026”.

Discover the first comprehensive exhibition of the renowned photographer Jamel Shabazz’s work in Germany. Featuring more than 60 photographs, it offers a vivid portrait of life in New York in the 1980s and 1990s, capturing friendship, family, community and the emergence of hip-hop culture. Alongside Shabazz’s iconic street portraits, the exhibition also includes lesser-known images taken during his many years of service as a correction officer on Rikers Island, reflecting on the realities of social marginalisation and exclusion.

Running in parallel is the exhibition “Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize 2026”, featuring works by shortlisted artists Jane Evelyn Atwood, Weronika Gęsicka, Amak Mahmoodian and this year’s winner Rene Matić. The exhibition unites diverse forms of photographic expression, ranging from classic black-and-white images, collaborative projects, and installation collages to AI-based works. It was curated by Julia Bunnemann from the Photographers’ Gallery.

We warmly invite you to the opening of the exhibitions “Jamel Shabazz. New York Vibes” and “Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize 2026”!

“Jamel Shabazz: New York Vibes” offers, for the first time in Germany, a comprehensive insight into Shabazz’s multifaceted perspectives on life in New York during the 1980s and 1990s. On his walks through the predominantly African-American neighbourhoods of his hometown, he has taken countless portraits that are now icons of their era. Making the streets his studio, Jamel Shabazz captures the exuberant creativity of the young generation in vibrant images. Also included in the show are the lesser-known images taken during his many years of service as a correction officer on Rikers Island, reflecting on the realities of social marginalisation and exclusion.

At the same time, we present the exhibition of the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize 2026, which we award annually in partnership with The Photographers' Gallery, London. This year’s finalists are Jane Evelyn Atwood, Weronika Gęsicka, Amak Mahmoodian and the winner, Rene Matić. The exhibition highlights the diversity of contemporary photographic practices represented by the shortlisted artists, ranging from classic black-and-white photography, collaborative projects, and immersive collage installations to AI-based works.

HfG Rundgang Award 2026

Congratulations to , winner of this year’s HfG Rundgang Prize, awarded by the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation!

The €3,000 Award recognises outstanding photography-based work by students at since 2010.

Kerstin Weiser impressed the jury with her photo-series “Von Sandburg zu Sandburg” (“From sandcastle to sandcastle”), in which she explores the playground as a designed space of experience and examines its distinctive architecture. With a visual language that is both highly distinctive and strikingly powerful, her photo-series challenges conventional ways of seeing through its unusual perspectives.

We are delighted to announce Raquel Villar-Pérez as the first Curatorial Fellow of the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation. ✨📸

is a UK based scholar, writer, and curator whose work focuses on photography in relation to migration, transnational feminism, and questions of social and ecological justice. Working from decolonial and expanded photographic practices, she brings a strong research driven and international perspective to contemporary curatorial work.

As part of the two year Curatorial Fellowship, starting now, she will engage closely with the Art Collection Deutsche Börse. Her research will focus on identifying key narratives and thematic focal points within the collection, leading to the development of a detailed exhibition concept. Furthermore, she will propose new artistic positions, contributing to the ongoing expansion and diversification of the collection.

The Fellowship will culminate in a jointly curated exhibition in 2028 at our premises in Eschborn, followed by a presentation at another photography institution in Europe.

Visit our exhibition “Worlds within Worlds”!✨

Discover our collaboration between young photographers from and students from the Curatorial Studies Master’s programme at Goethe University and the Städelschule. 14 artists explore the in-between worlds of our respective realities. In their examination of social, political, and historical themes, the works on display push the boundaries of the photographic medium as well as those of reality.

Explore our exhibition “Human Topographies”! With 70 works from the Art Collection Deutsche Börse, the interplay between landscape, architecture and humans is illustrated in multifaceted environments which range from the harmonious to the bizarre. The exhibition combines works from the 1950s to the present, thus creating a dialogue between images by well-known artists and younger positions.
