Vielen Dank an die fünf Künstler*innen von „Finding Narratives“! Wir freuen uns auf weitere spannende Entdeckungen und Begegnungen in der Ausstellung und die gemeinsame LANGE NACHT DER GALERIEN & MUSEEN 2025 am 19.6.2025 von 18—24 Uhr im Dresdner Barockviertel mit euch!

Über den Kunstwerken dieser Ausstellung thront ein abstraktes Schloss: es steht für etwas Unsagbares, das schwer zu fassende Unbenannte. Ein „allgegenwärtiges Traumgebilde“ – oder, wie Emily Brontë (1818-1848) es treffend nannte - eines jeden „ever-present phantom thing“.

So fragil seine Form erscheint, so schwer ist es abzuschütteln. Von hier aus gilt es, sich in die einzelnen Räume dahinter vorzutasten. Einem Archäologen gleich, der detektivisch die Wände eines alten Wehrganges abtastet, können die Besucherinnen und Rezipienten ihre Erzählungen in den Abständen aufspüren: Die Sujets sind da, die Fabeln müssen noch geschrieben werden.

In den für jede Ausstellung neu erstellten „Chapters“ werden die Arbeiten der Künstler*innengruppe „Finding Narratives“ kapitelweise im Raum arrangiert. Dabei verwischt die Autorenschaft, inhaltliche und formale Gemeinsam­keiten zitieren und kommentieren sich, ohne dass den Betrachter*innen die Suche nach der für ihn gültigen Erzählung abgenommen wird. Gerade in den Abständen, in den Räumen zwischen den Schichten der Geschichte, können Spuren gefunden werden.

Nische sucht Nische

Seit Freitag, den 2. Mai eröffnet:
MARA FINK zu Gast in unserer aktuellen Ausstellung „Ever-Present Phantom Thing“ im Rahmen der Initiative „Nische sucht Nische“. Eine wunderbare Eröffnung - vielen Dank an das und !!

In Sachsen findet das künstlerische Schaffen von und mit Künstler*innen mit Behinderungen – trotz einer kleinen, aufstrebenden Szene – bislang kaum Beachtung. Zum 5. Mai, dem Europäischen Protesttag zur Gleichstellung von Menschen mit Behinderung, setzt gemeinsam mit Dresdner Galerien ein Zeichen für mehr Teilhabe in der Kunst. Die Aktion ist Teil der Dresdner Inklusionswoche.

Unter dem Titel „Nische sucht Nische“ schaffen acht Dresdner Galerien bewusst Raum für Werke von Künstler*innen mit Behinderung – darunter das .skd , die .gebr.lehmann, der .dresden, der , die .john.galerie John, der sowie das .studio_ .
Während der Inklusionswoche vom 2. bis 11. Mai sind Besucher*innen eingeladen auf einem Rundgang durch mehrere Galerien die künstlerischen Arbeiten des Malateliers zu entdecken.

Dresdner Galerien und farbwerk setzen ein Zeichen für mehr Teilhabe in der Kunst: Für die Werke von Künstler*innen mit Behinderung wird in den beteiligten Galerien bewusst Platz geschaffen. Ziel ist es, das Schaffen dieser Künstler*innen sichtbarer zu machen. Die Aktion ist Teil der Dresdner Inklusionswoche.

"Wie man einen Hügel baut"

Starting point of the exhibition „Wie man einen Hügel baut“ is the eponymous work by Klaus Walter, an intense artistic exploration of a solar field whose geometric grid stretches across the hill beneath it. At the same time, it serves as a signpost to areas of built environments and evolving urban landscapes, which Petra Trenkel translates into painting in her works. The foundation of this approach is always the process of seeing, perceiving, and observing the realities of buildings, green spaces, squares, and streets, shaped by the influence of time and chance. With a preference for mountain, polder, and urban landscapes, Andre Dekker focuses on the observation of entire regions, creating rapid, high-contrast series of ink drawings on-site. Using fine calligraphic techniques, he makes the structure of each landscape visible, unfolding a panoramic view of the terrain.

Andre Dekker (*1956 in Delft) is a Dutch visual artist, stage designer, and author specializing in public art within the context of urban and landscape transformations. He is a co-founder and partner of Observatorium, an artist collective whose large-scale artworks merge sculpture and placemaking. He lives and works in Rotterdam, NL.

Petra Trenkel (* in Bischofsheim/Maintal) studied from 1988—1995 at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste, Städelschule, in Frankfurt am Main under Prof. Thomas Bayrle and Prof. Per Kirkeby. She lives and works in Berlin.

Klaus Walter (*1964 in Glauchau, Saxony) studied from 1984—1989 at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig under Dietrich Burger and Arno Rink. In 2015, he was awarded the Rostock Art Prize for Painting. He lives and works in Berlin.

The exhibition program of Galerie Ursula Walter is funded by the Office for Culture and Monument Protection of the City of Dresden.

Wir freuen uns, die monografisch angelegte Publikation „BOCK“ des Dresdner Künstlers im Rahmen einer BOOK LAUNCH zu präsentieren. „BOCK“ fasst Tempels ortsbezogene temporäre Objekte und Installationen im öffentlichen Raum der letzten zwei Jahrzehnte zusammen. Das Œuvre wird in einem Essay von Marie Cathleen Haff analysiert. Der Band erscheint im Sandstein Verlag Dresden 2024.

We are pleased to present the monographic publication „BOCK" by Dresden artist as part of a BOOK LAUNCH. „BOCK“ summarises Tempel's site-specific temporary objects and installations in public spaces from the last two decades. The oeuvre is analysed in an essay by Marie Cathleen Haff. The volume will be published by 2024.

In their solo exhibition EXCERPT OF HIS STORY, the female art collective NEOZOON vividly portrays societal power structures and the complex, ambivalent relationship between humans and nature. Using their characteristically critical visual language, Neozoon challenges historical narratives and reveals how these continue to shape our understanding of environment and identity. The works on display, incorporating diverse media from analog to digital collage, offer subtle yet provocative insights into patriarchally influenced representations and their impact on nature.

Herzliche Einladung/ Kind Invitation to the finissage of the exhibition Somewhere it is Night and the end of the takeover by the Class for moving image from today (17.10.24) from 19h. The exhibition is open already from 15h!
The South African artist Lindiwe Matshikiza will be present and we offer space for exchange with a small bar and seating. 

Somewhere it is Night was conceived together by Leon Michel, Laura Urbanski and Isabell Alexandra Meldner as a spatial situation that intertwines sound, video and installation works:
Now that we lie there, we could so easily forget how Earth spins. We lie down because Earth attracts us and we are tired. We sleep, while elsewhere it is day, night falls and the sun comes up. A narrative is taking place within me and deprives me from the time passing in my proximity.
You ended up in the unreal concurrence of happenings, not knowing the direction it takes. When the temporality of narrative and narrated fall in the same interval a form of absence emerges. That memory of an imagination, the place you belong to, this continuous longing. It can not be a coincidence, but a script that repeats itself differently over and over again. As if this reality was a film - but it’s just a room with sand, this ceiling fan, scattered blankets and a voice that speaks of coordinates and doesn’t see the images moving.

The exhibition is the last ‘take’ in a series of takeovers by the Class for Moving Image from Dresden.
Somewhere it is Night places the space in a temporary state, occupied by notions of distance, time and planetary disorientation. Conceived together as a spatial situation, video, sound and installation works intertwine and continue in form of a book. The cinematic work-in-process Five-Fingered Memory by Lindiwe Matshikiza will be shown for the first time in a 30min version.

CREATIVE RESISTANCE

In times of heightened political and personal stress, how do we calm down the nervous system and connect with each other so we can dive more fully into creative and activist work?
This workshop series offers an embodied, practical and technical exploration of themes promoted by intersectional q***r feminism: themes of care, inclusion, acceptance, of listening, of changing roles, of offering each other support. It is a methodology that highlights the link between somatic practices and creating a tangible feeling of togetherness and liberation.
We will focus on ensemble communication skills, somatic practices and engaging the body and the voice in order to use these as instruments for creative practice and resistance. Together we will develop a group public activation (instant assembly/placards/flash mob activation that promotes LGBTQI* visibility and antifascist action in Dresden.

Gallery Ursula Walter - in Rotterdam! Eight artists from Saxony are coming to Rotterdam to present their work together with eight local colleagues - it remains a surprise what they will conjure out of their luggage and what will be on display! Since 2018, Dutch artists have played an important role in the programme of Galerie Ursula Walter in Dresden. The artist in residence programme of the partner cities Dresden and Rotterdam and the resulting intensive meetings have now led to an open and broad network. At the same time, the exhibition at Neck of the Woods in Rotterdam is the culmination of the 10th anniversary of the project space Galerie Ursula Walter. What could be better than celebrating this together with guests and also being a guest in the neighbouring country?

A collaboration with Goethe-Institut Niederlande in the framework of „Begegnungen // Ontmoetingen“ and with CBK Rotterdam . This exhibition is supported by Freistaat Sachsen in the framework of the campaign „So geht Sächsisch“.
