A digital space for saving and documenting Russia's crimes against Ukrainian culture

Over 200 visitors in Weimar: our first international showcase of “Target: Culture” 🇺🇦🇩🇪

From 25 September to 9 October 2026, the travelling exhibition “Target: Culture. Appropriated. Destroyed. Forgotten?” was presented at Galerie Eigenheim EIGENHEIM Weimar/Berlin in Weimar, Germany, as part of the exhibition “Ukraine on Fire”.

Our project combines documentary evidence with artistic interpretation to explore the different ways in which Russia steals, destroys and appropriates Ukraine’s cultural heritage today, revealing common patterns behind these actions.

The exhibition in Weimar featured posters, an interactive memory game, and a VR installation that allowed visitors to explore our first virtual exhibition, featuring 3D reconstructions of cultural objects looted, damaged or destroyed in Mariupol in 2022.

More than 200 people visited the exhibition, including over 50 guests at the opening. The VR experience and memory game attracted particular interest among children and young people, offering an accessible way to discover the stories behind individual objects.

We are grateful to everyone who visited the exhibition and engaged with a topic that matters deeply to us. Seeing how the stories behind Ukraine’s cultural heritage under attack resonate with so many people reminds us why they need to be told.

Our sincere thanks to our partners in Weimar, especially the exhibition’s curator, Kateryna Anikieieva Катерина Анікєєва, for her dedication and for making this collaboration possible.

We hope to bring “Target: Culture” to more cities and audiences. If you have a space to host the exhibition and resources to support its local production, we would love to collaborate. We also welcome strategic and financial partners interested in helping us develop new ways of telling these stories through different exhibition formats and experiences.

The exhibition materials were developed by the NGO “Workshop of Experimental Culture” with the support of the Heinrich Böll Foundation, Kyiv Office – Ukraine Heinrich Böll Stiftung Kyiv.

We’re looking for a Communications Specialist to join the Museum of Stolen Art.

We’re looking for someone who wants to grow with us — and contribute to our work of restoring justice by bringing Ukraine’s looted, damaged, and destroyed cultural heritage back into the Ukrainian and international public space.

We’re looking for someone with experience in SMM and PR, strong writing skills in Ukrainian and English, an interest in the topic, and a desire to become an active part of the project. It would be an advantage if you know how to translate ideas into strong visual storytelling.

The role is part-time (around 20 hours per week), with the possibility of moving to full-time over time. The work can be fully remote, though most of our team is based in Kyiv — and we’d also be happy to meet for coffee from time to time ☕️

When facing cultural erasure, it is easy to fall into the trap of skepticism. We often hear that fighting for stolen heritage is an endless battle with little chance of real impact.

However, the real cases prove otherwise.

The return of the Scythian Gold is a decisive precedent showing that long-term, structured action actually works. What was targeted for theft and appropriation can be reclaimed.

This is precisely why we work: documenting these cultural crimes and bringing stolen heritage back into the public eye is the crucial first step toward justice.

We are proud to announce that our exhibition project “Target:Culture”: Appropriated. Destroyed. Forgotten? is heading to Weimar, Germany, to join the showcase "Ukraine in Flames."
The exhibition “Ukraine in Flames” examines the impact of war across three key dimensions: scorched earth, lost home and destruction of cultural heritage.

Our exposition documents the systematic destruction and looting of Ukrainian cultural heritage. Visitors will see the targeted shelling of the Skovoroda Museum in Kharkiv region, the fragile status of Maria Prymachenko’s art during the war, the story behind over 30,000 museum items stolen from Kherson under the guise of "evacuation." Through posters, interactive installations and a VR tour, the project transforms passive viewing into a dialogue on culture, memory, and accountability.

🏛 Exhibition works: opening on 25/09.2026 at 6 pm.
Then: Tuesday - Sunday, 3pm - 7 pm.

We’ve wrapped up the first module of our International Advocacy Lab!

Our lead speaker was Ira Shostak, Co-Founder and Development Director of the Museum of Stolen Art. She delivered an insightful lecture on the different forms of international advocacy and led a training session on designing effective international advocacy campaigns, drawing from practical real-world cases.

A special thanks to our colleagues from ICOM Ukraine and the Товариство Рафаеля Лемкіна for joining us and sharing their expertise. Their involvement truly enriched and broadened our discussion and practical workshop.

At the same time, we fully understand that due to the security situation in Kyiv, not everyone was able to attend in person. That’s why we’re opening up an asynchronous learning track.

Лабораторія міжнародної адвокації викраденої спадщини бореться з російською дезінформацією щодо української культури й спадщини та вчить українців говорити про неї.

Формат програми: лекції та воркшопи, домашні завдання учасників, менторський супровід упродовж місяця.

Серед тренерів — співзасновники linza agency Lesyk Yakymchuk та Ira Shostak.

У першому модулі Іра розповідала про міжнародну адвокацію, Музей викраденого мистецтва (проєкт ГО “Цех експериментальної культури”), і навчала учасників розробляти адвокаційні кампанії.

Russia continues to systematically loot, erase, and destroy Ukrainian cultural heritage during the full-scale war. To tell these stories to the world, we have created a modular exhibition "Target: Culture” Appropriated. Destroyed. Forgotten? highlighting specific cases of stolen and destroyed cultural assets.

So we are currently looking for hosting partners, guests, as well as strategic and financial supporters to bring this project to global audiences.

🤝 What we expect from hosting partners:

✔️ Flexible materials adaptable for venues from 20 to 200 m²;
✔️ Translation into your local language (if needed)
✔️ Printing and setting up the materials
Optionally: Side events and additional equipment (as VR, for instance)

Partners receive from us full content package, promo materials and assets, ideas and network.

🌐 We are also seeking strategic and financial partners to:

✔️ Expand the exhibition with additional video and audio content
✔️ Present the exhibition and host public programs internationally and in Ukraine
