Don’t miss the current exhibition at Galerie Kuckei + Kuckei in Berlin: Peter K. Koch - oh hell o - on view until 4th of March 2023.

In his now seventh solo exhibition at the gallery, Peter K. Koch is showing a selection of recent image-objects and a sculptural-architectural installation developed specifically for the gallery space. In all of his works, he is searching for a state situated between two clearly definable ones. Accordingly, the works often alternate between two potential readings and can be interpreted in two directions. Solid is fragile, open is closed, negative is positive or maybe fragile is solid, closed is open, positive is negative?

Don’t miss the last days of the current exhibition at Galerie Carolyn Heinz in Hamburg: Moritz Hasse & Esther Naused - LichtSchattenRaum - on view until the 10th of February 2023.

Spaces of indeterminate topography, in whose opaque expanses the viewer gets lost - streets or squares that are sufficient unto themselves and in which time seems to stand still. Common to both positions in the exhibition "LichtSchattenRaum" showing the works of Hasse and Esther Naused, is the concentration on the moment, pausing at a tense balance point that keeps the viewer in a state of suspension.

Don’t miss the current exhibition at Valerius Gallery in Luxembourg: VAL SMETS "PIG AND PEPPER" - on view until 18 February 2023.

In her first solo show with Valerius Gallery, luxembourgish-belgian artist Val Smets (*1991) presents her newest body of work, centered around the importance of nature, our relationship with the unconscious and the world of dreams. Vals' works depict dream-like, psychadelic nature sceneries in bright colours. Different encounters and energies influence her colour palette and reflect the interconnectivity of life.

Don’t miss the the current exhibition at Bernhard Knaus Fine Art in Frankfurt: Γ‡iğdem Aky - Rhythmus - on view until 28th of January 2023.

Γ‡iğdem Aky explores rhythmic color arrangements through her medium, painting. For her first solo show with Bernhard Knaus Fine Art, the artist presents works from a new series that manage to open up our gaze beyond a separation of inside and outside, beyond the separation of order and chaos. In the center of each of Γ‡iğdem Aky's paintings is a monochrome or multicolored rectangle on a black or white ground, making them initially reminiscent of the clear geometric structure of works classified as Concrete Art.

Judith’s x-mas wish is the art work "25 VIII 69/1" by Oskar Holweck.
🎁🎁🎁

Oskar Holweck (1924-2007) an artist "considered a pioneer of paper art in Europe", created his first paper reliefs as early as 1958, interpreting paper as a sculptural material on which phenomena of light, space and time became concrete. The use of industrial paper material as well as the consequent turn to the non-colour white are programmatic for his work. Holweck described that "Working with paper means: Bending, buckling, crumpling, folding, creasing, pressing, compressing, stretching, scoring, piercing, tearing, slitting, cutting, gluing, beating, drilling, sawing, etc. to singeing, heating, burning." The artist's oeuvre is represented by Galerie Martin Kudlek.

Martin's x-mas wish is the art work "Heimat - Hardboiledwonderland" by Felix Baxmann. ✨✨✨

Baxmann graduated in 2017, as a master student of Mark Lammert at the UdK Berlin. The largest group of works are ink drawings on paper, which are made of countless tiny weaving patterns. They are sometimes condensed in several layers to create structures reminiscent of textiles. In his works, Baxmann also experiments with clamping the coloured pencils in a hand drill while applying the paint. His work process is almost meditative and requires extreme discipline and endurance. The drawn forms become denser through the slowness of working, thus turning something invisible visible: Time and overcoming. The artist is represented by Galerie Martin Mertens.

Philipp’s x-mas wish is an art work by Harald Popp.
🎁🎁🎁

Harald Popp produces digital views into analogue spaces: spaceless views of three-dimensional bodies. A representationality, almost without shadows, reduced to infinitesimal hints of space, approaching the background like a reflex of the analogue. These are things that reveal nothing about use, purpose and dimension and yet assert themselves in their thingness. The before and behind do not generate a space for meaning or action, but a linking of two dimensions that never really coincide. Popp's presentation is an irritation, an undertone of doubt about the self-assurance of our seeing and an object world robbed of its objectivity. The artist is represented by Galerie Karin Guenther.

Today’s x-mas wish is the art work "Sky" by Shinoh Nam.
🎁🎁🎁

Shinoh Nam creates concepts that seek to challenge boundaries and broaden the thinking of the spectators. When people are exposed to new experiences and situations, their minds will beinfluenced and change. Nam’s installation and sculpture offer spectators new environments of how artifcial, laboratory and ordinary elements transform our current reality into novel concepts. The artist employs an astronomical telescope to take this series of images, but the subject was a corner of the sky visible with the naked eye. It created a deliberate illusion of the planet and a distance for him to re-examine his surroundings. The artist is represented by NADAN_Berlin.

Klaus’s x-mas wish is the art work "Keep your head above water" by Birte Bosse. 🎁🎁🎁

Fine ink drawings by the artist Birte Bosse can be discovered at Galerie Georg Nothelfer from Berlin. Bosse's formal language is based on the search for constant self-renewal. The exploration of the line is a significant theme in her work, which finds expression in sketches, drawings, paintings and sculptures. Her works refer to the uniqueness of existence with a sensitive humour. At the same time, her drawings form the basis as a collection of reflections on our perception of everyday life and relationships. The artist graduated as a master student of Bogomir Eckerbis in Braunschweig in 2013.

Clara's x-mas wish is an art work by Malwine Stauss.
🎁🎁🎁

For the development of her seemingly light, sometimes playful compositions, Malwine Stauss not only uses a clear, simplified formal language and a color spectrum that is in no way inferior to the intensity and variety of the 1960s and 70s. Moreover, she also shows a great affinity for colorful patterns as well as for gouache and pastel colours. In her life-affirming pictures, Stauss creates an utopia that is at the same time a manifestation of what already exists in our world: solidary communities, awakening - and strong women in the most positive sense. She is represented by Jarmuschek+Partner gallery.

Today’s x-mas wish is the art work "Tip touch" by Emma Kohlmann.
🎁🎁🎁

Kohlmann's work visualise a primal, human desire for familiarity and connection with nature, for a unity with the world. The artist gives shape to this dreamed or fantasised connection in richly coloured pictorial worlds on paper and canvas that tend towards abstraction. Emma Kohlmann was born 1989 in The Bronx, NY, and received her BA from Hampshire College in Amherst, MA. She was respresented by Golestani during the 2022's edition of paper positions berlin.

Don’t miss the current exhibition at NADAN_Berlin in Berlin: The Idea of Linear Notation - Antoni Starczewski - on view until 13th of January 2023.

The exhibition includes 30 works by the Polish post-war artist Antoni Starczewski (1924-2000) from the 1960s to the 1980s. Each of these systematically illustrates the artist’s personal line of development alongside the traces of his time. Starczewski worked in a variety of media: ceramics, prints, textiles, as well as in situ projects. He explored the fields of visual art, music and language. One of the fundamental mandates of Antoni Starczewski’s work was his refusal to separate the visual arts from the decorative arts.

Don't miss the current presentation of works by artist Rolf Hans at Thole Rotermund Kunsthandel in Hamburg (by appointment).

Rolf Hans creates in his works with the "language of colors" variations on the sensation of the infinity of nature, which moves man in the depth of his existence. In this, Hans also follows the landscape painting of the 19th century - like Philipp Otto Runge; he also uses nature as a model "to pictorially represent the mathematics of the organic."

Don’t miss the current exhibition Galerie Rupert Pfab: Sophie Heinrich: Alongside - on view until 14th January 2023

In Sophie Heinrich's paintings, the strict concentration on the linear and the setting of large areas often painted triangular have pictorial significance. Large, unpainted areas and the structure of the canvas are usually included as compositional elements and as vivid colors. Each of the precise settings, each stroke, each line, and each surface are carefully pointed. Some lines are firm and dominant, others delicate and barely perceptible. It is not only the well-considered composition within a painting that interests her but also the reference of individual elements to other paintings.

paper positions.

paper positions pursues the idea of an art salon in the form of art fairs. Founded as a special format of the POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair in Berlin, paper positions now also takes place in Basel, Frankfurt and Munich. International galleries present artworks out of, with and on paper - including drawings, collages, paintings, objects, photographs, artist's books and autographs. Paper positions offers established and prospective collectors, as well as other artloving visitors, a broad spectrum of high-quality contemporary, modern, and 19th-century art. The fair's focus is less about high prices or renown names than of special artistic positions and the opportunity to make discoveries. Exhibitors are attracted by the fair as it offers a extensive and affordable package that allows them to experiment and to present also young artists. paper positions presents an exciting dialogue with artworks by already well-known artists that wait to be rediscovered. The unconventional nature of this fair is also reflected in the fair architecture. There are deliberately no booths.
