DE

EN
alpha nova-kulturwerkstatt & galerie futura is a Berlin-based art space for exhibitions and cultural events with an explicit gender-critical perspective. It focuses on collaborations with women* artists. Based on a feminist self-concept, we want to create a space which combines political intervention and artistic practices to develop critical perspectives for the artistic and academic communities, as well as for society at large. The galerie futura presents thematic exhibitions with installations, net-art, audiovisual arts and fine arts. Events like film screenings, performances, concerts, readings and discussions happen at the alpha nova-kulturwerkstatt. Thematic workshop series (video, sound, photo, drawing, performance, and writing) and round-table discussions for cultural producers are also organized there. We also offer coaching and support in conceptional work and networking for women from artistic fields. alpha nova & galerie futura works with various partner institutions and individuals on local, interregional, and international temporary projects. One main focus is to exchange with cultural producers from Middle and Southeastern Europe and from Turkey. The association is part of different art and cultural networks and considers itself as a meeting point for an even wider range of women’ and artists’ networks.

Weaving Our Words: Migrant Artist Parent Gathering
Participatory workshop by Mei Homma & Yukiko Nagakura (in English)
Saturday, 4th of July 2026 // 13:00-16:00
Please register via DM or [email protected]

In this workshop, we would like to explore the question:
How can migrant artists who are also parents continue creating, sustaining their careers, and maintaining their artistic identities despite the challenges they face?
Through collaborative making alongside children, we aim to weave our words in order to demonstrate possible ways of balancing artistic practice and parenting, while creating a space for dialogue, reflection, and mutual support. We are also interested in the everyday complexities of multicultural family life — such as navigating multiple languages and cultural identities within and outside the home — and how these experiences shape both parenting and artistic practice.

Please note
・This workshop is intended for migrant artist parents.
・Children are welcome to participate in the workshop.
・We recommend an age of 5 years and above, but siblings are also welcome.
·Maximum capacity: 10 families

Snapshots of intimacy. S3x, care, emptiness in times of digital media communication - A performative lecture about embodiment, pleasure and representation

With Ewa Majewska, Sergio Frutos and Natalia Żychska

24 June 2026 // 19.00 (in English)

Digital dating, online s3x and gaming smoothly became parts of our daily experiencing of intimacy.
The sending of videos, pictures and graphics, even words, by everyday internet users globally, add another layer to Joseph Beuys‘ claim that “everyone is an artist“. We all co-create our intimacy, gendered embodiment and pleasure, and while conforming to some code, we often also violate others. Do we follow the divisions and hierarchies of visual cultures or perhaps create an online utopia? Is our experience of digital intimacy exceptional, or do we follow similar scripts? Is there space for creativity in a world, where visual subordination leads to such phenomena as the “insta face“ or “tiktok gesture”?

Snapshots of intimacy invites to rethink our models of dating, representing and sharing intimate moments in conversation with feminist artists Żychska and Frutos, and writer-theorist Majewska, who all created their ways of portraying these singular and shared moments of everyday s3xual, private and embodied moments.
Can pleasure be captured? How to paint everyday, shared intimacy? How to render it in words, as dialogue rather, that scientific description? Are these efforts emancipatory? Come join us in the discussion and presentation of our projects, which offer examples of finding words, paintings, frames and performances of today’s intimacy in its everyday, ordinary, common practice.

This unheroic polyvocal exchange is meant to enhance our thinking, grasping and immersion in a variety of practices, which all uphold emancipatory, egalitarian common ground for all bodies, all genders, all complexions and all shapes.

Atoosa Farahmand & Oscar Hagberg: Not A Typical Persian Girl
7.3.-17.4.2026

(…) The title Not a Typical Persian Girl points to the irony of being labeled socially “untypical” in a context where what is considered “typical” is defined by repressive political ideology. In reality, the supposedly “untypical girl” is one of millions of women in Iran who must repeatedly take risks and resist in order to defend their right to a free life.
Farahmand and Hagberg explore how protest and play, poetry and humor coexist within the ongoing struggle for equality and democracy, making visible experiences that often remain hidden from public view. In this sense, Not a Typical Persian Girl is both an acknowledgment of this struggle and a form of resistance in itself. “We want to focus our attention on a marginalized reality but also invite the audience to ask how their struggle is connected to our own and what responsibility we have,” say Farahmand and Hagberg.

Atoosa Farahmand & Oscar Hagberg: Not A Typical Persian Girl
7.3.-17.4.2026 // Wed.-Sat. 16:00-19:00

With the exhibition Not a Typical Persian Girl, the Iranian-Swedish artist duo Atoosa Farahmand and Oscar Hagberg focus on the lived realities of women and girls in Iran, caught between state repression and resistance.
The 1979 Islamic Revolution marked a profound rupture in women’s autonomy and social participation in Iran; since then, women have been systematically deprived of their rights. The death of Jina Mahsa Amini as a result of brutal police violence sparked nationwide protests in 2022, widely known under the slogan “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî“ (Woman, Life, Freedom). These protests were and continue to be led by women, but are supported by various social groups that oppose the authoritarian regime. The regime responds with massive state violence.
Through photographs, installations, videos, and a publication, Atoosa Farahmand and Oscar Hagberg pay tribute to women and girls who resist disenfranchisement and assert their agency. Their works highlight both small and large acts of everyday resistance and emphasize the persistence, courage, and creativity of women navigating an oppressive system.

The exhibition is kindly supported by the Embassy of Sweden in Berlin and Konstnärsnämnden – The Swedish Arts Grants Committee.
