The Muesum

The Muesum There are many museums in the world but only one m{ }esum. What the m{ }esum in fact is, we
may never know.

T H E M { } E S U M

The foreignness of what you no longer are, no longer possess, or haven’t yet become lies in wait at the m{ }esum. It can in many ways be seen as an universal depository for all our lost, ideals, selves, relationships, relatives, utopias, pens, lighters, memories, work, potential, directions, braincells and unrealised possibilities. The m{ }esum is bigger than you can imagin

e and yet it takes up no space. With a collection that is simultaneously intangible and forever expanding, most of it remains hidden, the specifics irretrievable, for only that which is lost or missing can enter the m{ }esum. However, do not be fooled into thinking that the m{ }esum is a fictive m{ }esum, or some kind of philosophical or esoteric joke, for the m{ }esum, despite archaeology’s inability to prove its existence is not mere abstractions or conceptual titillations. Rather the m{ }esum, one of its kind, is the world’s largest and and most significant m{ }esum to specialise above all in loss and unrealised possibilities, known as n∅bjects*. T H E M { } E S U M C O L L E C T I O N

The diverse and manifold m{ }esum collection include n∅bjects* dating from ancient times to the present day, and beyond, in virtually every category. From missing masterpieces to the unpublished, unfinished and undone. From the burned down Great Library of Alexandria to your lost socks. From the historic, documented, memorable, renowned or infamous to the forgotten, unidentified, unsung, mundane and obscure. From the concrete and tangible to the metaphysical and emotional. The m{ }esum contains uncountable sets of n∅bjects*, many unknown, it is thus impossible to determine the collection’s size with any certainty, nonetheless, since the the m{ }esum specialises in all things lost, in theory the collection is always complete, even when parts are missing. M { } E S U M D I R E C T I O N S

The exact location of the m{ }esum is debated though it is believed that the m{ }esum resides within itself. Yet details of sightings and possible m{ }esum portals have been recorded in other places, most recently in Berlin, where for the convenience of the m{ }esum visitor a public wing of the m{ }esum opened its doors on November 5th 2011. Here you may find the m{ }esum attendant, meticulously cataloging n∅bjects into the muesum archive or lovingly tending to your lost hats and scarves, to your lost trust in political systems, to the memory of a body, to your old ego, to your numerous lost telephones, to your future plans, to your lost cause, to your unfulfilled desires and to the answer that you never received. Excused Absence? And an exciting announcement. I am opening a new space for the public wing of the M{ }esum, at a secret location in Berlin.

It was interesting to watch how people interacted with this floor graphic that is part of my work in progress; Rites of Nothing - Negotiating the void. Shown at Art-Athina as part of the The M{ }esum. Some people carefully walked around it. Some people just waded through without paying attention. Some people jumped straight in and took selfies of their feet. But Jefferson, another exhibitor, was the only person who lied down.

From missing masterpieces to the unpublished, unfinished and undone, the world’s most significant off-space to specialise above all in loss, unrealised possibilities and absence, known as n∅bjects* welcomes the historic, documented, memorable, renowned and infamous as well as the forgotten, unidentified, unsung, mundane and obscure.

'Master-piece' by Atalya Laufer (Israel) is an erected black and white paper totem. Hundreds of drawings she has done in recent years in the British Museum have resulted in a seemingly organically formed pole of crumpled sketches. Her own collection of the British Museum has finally found an emblematic and formless form.

In her poem ‘The British Museum’, Hannah Murgatroyd (UK) appropriates texts from the British Museum’s digitised archive of the ceramics collection of her forebear, the pre-Raphaelite painter, Henry Wallis. Interspersed with observation and recollection, the poem is a picturesque investigation into present and past – simultaneously tangible and metaphysical.

Anna Livia Löwendahl-Atomic (Sweden), the director/muesum attentant of T H E M { } E S U M, will display an expanding archive of British Muse/Mues -um n∅bjects* and parallel/interconnected/overlapping works in the making where the final product/s may or may not be ephemeral, left incomplete or not entirely known. Many n∅bjects* in the British Museum collection are disputed and lost from its original location and therefore also form part of the m{ }esum collection. Additionally, there are over 30 000 missing bits from The British Museum, from heads of sculptures and figurines, to mirror handles and pin heads. During The British Muesum her continuous exploration of m{ }esum issues will unfold, partially in front of the muesum visitor, for during opening times her ongoing work will take place in full view. She also invites the public to donate their own n∅bjects* to the permanent muesum archive, and to join her for daily afternoon tea.

London and its museums have played an important role in the lives of the three artists who are now based in Berlin.

They emailed the muesum twice but the mail got lost. So it was a surprise when they turned up at the last "Lost at the Museum Disco". In return they seem to have lost a letter S and maybe the plot.. For who in their right mind would organsise a disco between 6-10 pm in Berlin in order to attract an audience ? :-) ;-)
Well done we are almost there..
