A detail from the series "Natural Landscape

The exhibition features the "Natural Landscape" series, which includes nine pieces created between 2022 and 2026. Each piece measures 20x20 cm and is made on upcycled fabric.

These pieces have been created using traditional textile dyeing techniques, which the artist has adapted into her own artistic practice. The pigments are derived from nettle, pine cones, avocado seeds, eucalyptus, oak acorn caps, and wild forest mushrooms. The exhibition also includes pieces painted with pigments extracted from plants (indigo, nettle, and wild forest mushrooms) as well as mineral earth pigments.

Tiina Herttua: Landscapes of Memory

The works in the exhibition take landscape as their starting point – not merely as a subject, but as a space of emotion and experience. Visual artist Tiina Herttua’s practice draws on art history, the long tradition of landscape painting, and the concept of the sublime. For Herttua, the sublime is the sense of profound impact and intense experience encountered in the presence of a landscape. Her works emerge from memories and the observation of place, particularly the Finnish archipelago, the natural environment of Sipoonkorpi National Park, and the light of Sicily. Many of the paintings have been created en plein air.

In the Landscape Variations series, Herttua explores landscape by abstracting and simplifying its forms. A place may be distilled in a painting to little more than a colour, a quality of light, or a single detail that carries the experience of the landscape as a whole.

The exhibition also includes a series of works made using natural dyes. This choice of materials is a conscious statement on the growing distance between people and the natural world. In these works, Herttua adapts a traditional textile-dyeing method to the context of contemporary visual art. She produces pigments and dyes from materials gathered in the surrounding environment, including fallen branches, wild mushrooms and withering vegetation. The materials originate from the same environment as the works themselves, establishing a tangible connection between the works and the places in which they are created. Landscape is therefore not only the visual starting point of the works, but becomes part of their material essence.

Tiina Herttua is a visual artist who studied at the Lahti Institute of Fine Arts in Finland and at the Australian National University (ANU). She is a member of the Finnish Painters’ Union. Her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions across Europe, as well as in Australia, Japan and the United States. Her works are held in private and public collections, including the collection of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. Herttua lives and works in Finland and Sicily.

All Flowers Wither is a solo exhibition by visual artist and author Jaana Kivi, presenting a series of oil and mixed-media paintings. In these works, woman and nature are intertwined as one, while nature itself is bound within the confines of a flowerpot. The paintings reflect on the ecological crisis, the sacred feminine, and the ways in which nature lives, speaks, and shows its symptoms through the human body. The exhibition is on view at Galerie Pleiku from 22 September to 3 October.

In the exhibition's visual language, Kivi utilizes negative space, cut-out forms, and a sketchlike aesthetic that symbolizes incompleteness and transformation emerging from a state of emptiness. The juxtaposition of materials is a deliberate conceptual choice: the synthetic acrylic paint references the microplastics that increasingly permeate our environment, while traditional oil paint and its natural pigments anchor the works in realism and a more organic relationship to artistic practice. The paintings derive their internal tension from the interplay between softness and sharpness, the delicacy of brushwork and the rawness of drips and textured surfaces. Through her paintings, Kivi portrays women as embodiments of the sacred feminine, the creator archetype, and the ideal of Mother Nature.

Kivi's artistic practice is rooted in layering. Working in mixed media, she begins each piece with acrylic paint, ink, and charcoal, before bringing the composition to completion with oil paints. The lower layers remain deliberately visible, revealing the history of the painting process. The works presented in this exhibition were created between 2025 and 2026. Kivi has studied media art, fine art, and creative writing. Her work has been exhibited in Finland and internationally, including exhibitions in Paris, London, and Rome. In Finland, her paintings have been shown in both solo and group exhibitions.
