FAKE-ESTATE by Anna Uddenberg  continues

15. September 2022 – 31. December 2022

Performances take place on Saturdays and Sundays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Guided tours through the exhibition from September 24th and October 1st, at 4 p.m.

In FAKE-ESTATE, Uddenberg’s most extensive solo exhibition in Berlin to date, the artist presents a site-specific installation ‘used’ for an ongoing durational live performance. Focusing on the ‘furnituresque’ parts of her sculptural practice, quasi-functional objects become activated through performance. The introduction of performers to ‘use’ or be ‘used’ by objects, extends the artist’s long-running fascination with functionality as a mode of control. Much like in a B**M contractual agreement, the body is wilfully supported, entrapped, pampered and ultimately rendered useless, all while on view for the general public’s consumption in a ‘public disgrace’. Stuck in a feedback loop, the ‘Self’ resolves.

Special thanks to  for their generous support.

TONIGHT: Alexander Kluge and Katharina Grosse () will speak with Klaus Biesenbach () about their new collaborative book „THE SEPARATRIX PROJECT“.
The event marks the beginning of an exhibition project that will unfold in January 2023 at Schinkel Pavillon.
Katharina Grosse and Alexander Kluge have created an astonishingly diverse universe of texts, film stills, drawings and watercolors on 690 pages, each working in their respective media. The book takes it’s title from a term by Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, coined to describe a point of convergence between two otherwise contradictory elements in mathematics. THE SEPARATRIX PROJECT will be available very soon (German edition and English edition), published by Spector Books ().

BOOK LAUNCH AND TALK TODAY 13 September 2022 | 7 pm

AT SCHINKEL PAVILLON TERRACE | Bring a warm coat

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Anna Uddenberg (b.1982) is a Swedish, Berlin-based artist known for her sculptural and performative practice, which explores the merging of the body and the ‘Self’ with technology on a behavioural plane. Uddenberg investigates our algorithmic human co-dependancy and the ways in which ‘user-friendly’ technology, interface and industrial design create pathways for our behaviour and navigation of both the physical and digital realms. The images that come out of our feeds become bits and pieces of a simulated hyperreality which Uddenberg’s works materialize.

15. September 2022 – 31. December 2022
Opening: 14. September 18:00

The desolate protagonists in Rafman's worlds don't seem to belong. They constantly wander between an isolated life behind the screen and a crude virtual reality that questions the notion of Self. Rafman’s new films, made largely over the Pandemic, touch on questions of interpersonal relationships, the faith in the twists and turns of one’s own memory and where the mind goes when you’re alone, secluded from the outside world.

The exhibition which opens parallel to a show at Sprüth Magers Berlin mark Rafman’s first institutional solo show in the city.

17/08/2022

Since the 90s' the opioid epidemic has haunted the United States, causing the death of over half a million people. Ever tightening its grip since the release of OxyContin, the epidemic has been a quiet storm raging through American bedside drawers stacked with pills. Cheap and highly addictive painkillers flourish in the pharmaceutical market thanks to those who tirelessly promote and prescribe them. SACKLER-owned Purdue Pharma dropped Oxycontin in America in 1996, marketed aggressively and by any means - from bribing to cheap cute plushies in the form of 80mg pills and giveaways for GPs and sales rep’s kids. As these kids grew up Prescription-born addictions to OxyContin turned to he**in, lives into ashes.

Seeking representation of the unfolding crisis in the US, artist Dustin Cauchi founded The Opioid Crisis Cookbook in 2019. Before Netflix sensationalism, the crisis was chronicled mainly through Journalistic-media and documentation. In this streamlined process of info distribution many narratives and voices have been suppressed, misunderstood and side-lined. One of the OCL’s objectives has been to map out the crisis like a war, making marginal narratives available and offering a rewriting of dominant narratives and a celebration of the cultures that the crisis is creating in all their monstrosity and sublimity. Shame and taboo free.

On Saturday, August 20, presents Real Homo Norwegian Black Metal Stories Zine Launch with Bjarne Melgaard, Dasha Zaharova and Dustin Cauchi in the Schinkel Pavillon’s iconic upper level.

Skeletal, feral, new rocks only, easy launch of OCL’s new zine. The conjuring of Christian Velasquez' forthcoming blockbuster brand-entity DEMMO .corp – Superstition – Anti-hero – EST. 2022 will take place during the event.

Founded in 2019 by the artist Dustin Cauchi is the first narco-capitalism fueled lifestyle magazine. Existing both online and in print it maps and styles the crisis, providing a journey through one of the most deadly epidemics of our time by invoking the visual language of fashion and popular culture. The focal point is a relation to addiction but “OCL is about drug culture and addiction as much as it about the colossal failure of a system that is drawing its final breaths.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Dealing in crises, dope-spawned cultures, consumer poetics and architectures of addiction, OCL collects and shares symbols, marginal narratives, images, stories and myths along with exclusive and repurposed texts, interviews, journalism, and fiction revolving around life on planet earth in the time of high capitalism by focusing on its ultimate cultural soap opera: The Opioid epidemic in the United States.

In ₱Ʉ₦₵₮ɄⱤɆĐ ₴₭Ɏ (2021), Rafman’s latest visual work, a gamer’s past coalesces with uncanny obstacles, part-human avatars and early internet aesthetics as we follow him on an unsettling journey through the dark web in search of an old computer game which has seemingly disappeared from the internet without a trace.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The exhibition which opens parallel to a show at Sprüth Magers Berlin mark Rafman’s first institutional solo show in the city.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Thank-you to Sprüth Magers for their generous support of the exhibition.
