“i’m dream

ing of a grey Christmas” ist der graumalerei Weihnachtsmarkt im Dezember mit Kunstdrucken und Gegenständen aus Berlin und aller Welt. 9.-17.Dezember.

graumalerei is a studio, a gallery, a shop for art and artefacts, a space for surprises. The opening on the 25th November will see the inaugural group exhibition by the resident graumalerei artists. Anna Benner, Carolina Buzio, Theresa Grieben, Mikko Heino and Linda Karoliina will explore their own meaning of “graumalerei”. The opening (with Glühwein) will be on the 25th November from 7pm. The exhibition will run until Nov 27. In December “im dreaming of a grey Christmas” will be graumalerei’s Christmas market with art prints, gifts and products from Berlin and the rest of the world running from Dec 9th till 17th. The graumalerei shop will be open from January 2017 every Friday and on random days. ABOUT GRAUMALEREI

The German word graumalerei is derived from Schwarzmalerei, which literally means painting black, and is a common expression for pessimism. In our graumalerei we are practising cynical fortune telling. Painting grey and drawing in colour. Graumalerei knows that the difference between good and evil isn’t always visible. Both can sometimes be just an “ok”. Graumalerei is somewhere between ambivalence and empathy. Graumalerei is the illusion of depth. Instagram:

We are inviting you to graumalerei’s art show for this year’s 48 hours Neukölln Art festival !🥂Starting this Friday, June 23, 2023 , and will present our group show exhibition ‘Ping Pong Tea Party’ under this year’s festival theme ‘PLAY(GROUND)‘. 🫖

We will be around to welcome you at the gallery on Friday from 7pm until about 24pm. On Friday we will also have a ping pong table event (involving a special collection of tea cups ☕️) and of course drinks! The festival goes on until Sunday (June 25) daily 4pm till 7pm, so you can also take a look at the artwork over the weekend.
The address is graumalerei gallery, Reuterstr. 82, 12053 Berlin, close to U Hermannplatz.

About the exhibition:
Please join us at graumalerei for our summer ping pong tea party!🏓 In an interactive installation, visitors are invited to take part either by drinking tea or by taking a shot at ping pong on our central table. The rules of the game will be improvised as we go along. Inspired by the Mad Hatter’s tea party, dadaist collage
and our own childhood memories, we expect a gloriously messy situation where the simultaneity of the two incompatible activities will bring out hilarity and allow our
inner children to come out to play. Kids are welcome to play too of course. Around the installation there will be an exhibition of new video works and drawings. 🍵🤹‍♀️🎩

Here are some impressions from our group show ‘Welcome Rabbit’ / ‘Hoş Geldin Tavşan!’ for festival last weekend!

In our exhibition according to the festival theme ‘I’m going to eat my head off’ we examined our personal coping mechanisms to deal with the past pandemic and the tiredness of the lockdowns, here is part 3:
Our artist has dealt with canned-food-hoarding in her signature piece ‘What rabbits Can do’ (which shows a transformed rabbit with a can-opener head 🥫) and also her piece ‘I’m going to bump my head off’ (which deals with her attempt to donate blood in order to do something good for the world only to faint afterwards and bump her own head badly 🩹).
And last but not least our pandemic puzzle performance was a real success, featuring ’s jungle drawing turned into a jigsaw – we managed to almost finish it during the festival weekend with the help of our friends!

In our exhibition according to the festival theme ‘I’m going to eat my head off’ we examined our personal coping mechanisms to deal with the past pandemic and the tiredness of the lockdowns. Here‘s part 2:
Our graumalerei artist Marcela Bustamante has taken to beautifully and meticulously embroidering her artist friends’ illustrations (amongst them Theresa’s drangonfly illustration) – it took her about a year to stitch them all! 🪡 She also hand painted a bust ‚Aphrodite‘s fight‘ in neon red and mysterious black patterns – a symbol for the confusion of what is right or wrong during a world-wide state of emergency.

Here are some impressions from our group show ‘Welcome Rabbit’ / ‘Hoş Geldin Tavşan!’ for festival last weekend! 🌙 We are super happy about all the guests who came to see our new artwork live and the nice evenings we spent together chatting and puzzling away. And of course a big thank you to the team of 48 Hours Neukölln for organising the event!

In our exhibition according to the festival theme ‘I’m going to eat my head off’ we examined our personal coping mechanisms to deal with the past pandemic and the tiredness of the lockdowns:
Here’s part 1: Our artist has animated a beautiful short film ‘One for Sorrow’ in which she portrayed the magpies from her apartment window; she also attempted to learn Turkish with the Duolingo app, only to be rewarded with very bizarre phrases such as ‘I am beautiful but I am not good’ – hence our show title ‘Welcome Rabbit’ in Turkish and her quirky aquarells of strawberries and chocolate bunnies. 🍓🍫🐇

🐇 You are warmly invited to art show for 48 hrs Neukölln Art festival ! Starting next Friday, June 24th, 2022 , Marcela Bustamante ( ) and will present our group show exhibition ‘Hoş Geldin Tavşan! Welcome Rabbit! Willkommen Kaninchen!’ under this year’s festival theme ‘I AM GOING TO EAT MY HEAD OFF’ in a group exhibition. 🤯✨

We will be around to cheer and chat with you at the gallery on Friday from 7pm until about 24pm. 🥂 On Friday we will also have a live puzzle event (involving a puzzle of our own artwork and one about hording toilet paper) and of course drinks! 🧩🧻 The festival goes on until Sunday (June 26) daily 4pm till 7pm, so you can also take a look at the artwork over the weekend.
Let’s celebrate the return of summer and art together! The address is graumalerei gallery, Reuterstr. 82, 12053 Berlin, close to Hermannplatz.

About the exhibition:
Two years into the pandemic it’s safe to say we have all dealing with some form of extreme tiredness that makes us want to ‘eat our own heads’. In our show ‘Welcome Rabbit’ we’re proposing an exhibition that centres around the ways to cope with such extreme situations. Within this we are celebrating the absurdity of the simultaneous worldwide sourdough baking, jigsaw puzzling and foreign language learning that sprung up everywhere. The 3 graumalerei artists will be responding with works that range from video art & sculpture to performance and drawing. The title from our exhibition comes from an attempt to learn Turkish over the lockdown with the help of the duolingo app, an unsuccessful dream to emerge from lockdown speaking the language of the neighbourhood.🐇🐇🐇
