August really delivered. From open-air screenings at Box Office Around the World, complete with a look-alike contest for the legendary movie dog Gohan 🐕🎬🍿 in the Schlüter Courtyard, to the Long Night of Museums 🌙 and inspiring conversations with the Goethe Medal recipients in Hall 1.
Blockbusters from India, Nigeria, Brazil, Argentina, Vietnam and Thailand, after-dark museum discoveries, and cultural commitment across the globe all share the same power: bringing people together and creating connections across perspectives, cultures and borders. ✨

In 60 Minuten das „Rad der Geschichte“ drehen, in der begehbaren Discokugel tanzen oder durch die Fernrohre aus den Fenstern des Humboldt Forums die Geschichte des Ortes entdecken: Die Führung präsentiert das historisch und gegenwärtig global vernetzte Berlin dialogisch und interaktiv.

Was erzählt dieses zwei Meter große Objekt von Enteignung und Verfolgung und warum ist es zugleich Sinnbild für die Partyszene der 1990er Jahre? Auch ein Blick zur Decke auf die originalen Lampen des Palastes der Republik lohnt sich: Wie vergnügten sich Berliner*innen hier vor 40 Jahren?

Turn the “wheel of history” in 60 minutes, dance in the walk-in disco ball or discover the history of the place through the telescopes from the windows of the Humboldt Forum: The guided tour presents the historically and currently globally networked Berlin in a dialogue-based and interactive way.

Spacious installations and exciting stories provide a varied introduction to seven different thematic worlds of Berlin. Special objects and stagings surprise visitors in each room: In the middle of BERLIN GLOBAL stands a safe door, rusty and weighing tons. What does this two-metre tall object tell of expropriation and persecution and why is it at the same time a symbol of the party scene of the 1990s? It is also worth looking up at the original lamps of the Palace of the Republic: how did Berliners have fun here 40 years ago?

Ein Parka aus Seehunddarmhäuten? Klingt ungewöhnlich, ist aber hochfunktional: Dieses Objekt aus dem 19. Jahrhundert aus Grönland ist wasserdicht, leicht und nachhaltig. Es zeigt eindrucksvoll die Innovationskraft der Kalaallit, dem indigenen Volk Grönlands, und ihre perfekt an die arktische Umwelt angepasste materielle Kultur.

📍2. OG, Ethnologisches Museum

Grönland ist die größte Insel der Erde und seit mindestens 5.000 Jahren besiedelt. Das Land war wiederholt Spielball geopolitischer Interessen und steht bis heute im Fokus globaler Aufmerksamkeit. Im Rahmen der Programminitiative „We the People“ der lädt dieses Objekt dazu ein, über kulturelle Identität, Selbstbestimmung und die Widerstandskraft grönländischer Gesellschaften nachzudenken.

Fun Fact: Das Wort Anorak geht auf das grönländische annoraaq zurück und gehört neben Kajak und Iglu zu den wenigen Inuit-Wörtern, die Eingang in unseren Alltag gefunden haben.

A parka made from seal intestines? It may sound unusual, but it is remarkably functional: this 19th-century object from Greenland is waterproof, lightweight, and sustainable. It is a striking example of the ingenuity of the Kalaallit, Greenland’s largest group of Inuit, and of a material culture perfectly adapted to the Arctic environment.

📍2nd floor, Ethnologisches Museum

Greenland is the world's largest island and has been inhabited for at least 5,000 years. Throughout history, it has repeatedly been subject to geopolitical interests and remains in the spotlight of global attention today. As part of the “We the People” programme initiative of the , this object invites us to reflect on cultural identity, self-determination, and the resilience of Greenlandic societies.

Fun fact: The word “anorak” derives from the Greenlandic term annoraaq. Together with kayak and igloo, it is one of the few Inuit words that have found their way into everyday use around the world.

Zwei Ausstellungen mit zeitgenössischen künstlerischen Positionen erweitern im Rahmen von „Beziehungsweise Familie“ den Blick transkulturell auf ein relationales Verständnis von Verwandtschaft. Die Führung stellt lokale und internationale Künstler*innen vor, die über Zusammengehörigkeit jenseits von Blutsverwandtschaft oder staatlich normierten Familienbildern nachdenken.

Transkontinentale will bring together international dance, theatre and performance productions from Cameroon, China, Aotearoa/New Zealand, Nigeria and Brazil. The participating artists explore themes of natural and cultural heritage, water, forests and the earth, offering new perspectives on the collections of the Humboldt Forum through their performances.
