Die Galerie Wedding - Raum für zeitgenössische Kunst ist eine städtische Galerie in Berlin Mitte. Sie befindet sich inmitten eines international geprägten Stadtteils zwischen Müllerstraße und Leopoldplatz in einem historischen Gebäude des Expressionismus. Wie schon das Bauwerk Teil eines utopischen Gesellschaftsentwurfs war, folgt die Galerie Wedding dem Anspruch, ein Ort für zeitgenössische künst

Galerie Wedding - Raum für zeitgenössische Kunst is a city gallery in Berlin Mitte. It is located in the middle of an internationally influenced district between Müllerstraße and Leopoldplatz in a historical building of expressionism. Just as the building was part of a utopian concept of society, Galerie Wedding follows the claim to be a place for contemporary artistic forms of expression and forward-looking socio-political models.

Performance “Rituals of Caring for the Wild” by Jinran Ha.

Inspired by traditional Korean rituals that welcome the invisible, rigid boundaries are overcome and attention is directed toward the marginalized, wild growth that thrives outside these boundaries. By watering overlooked plants together, a simple gesture becomes a spatial intervention and challenges the systems that dictate who belongs and who is marginalized.

With Yuni (Hoa Yun) Chung, Marque Lin, John Seung-Hwan Lee, Vasundhara Srivastava, Dr. Frederika Tsai and Yanting Xiong.

SONKO () is a Berlin based DJ and radio host. The sounds of Reggae and Dub were important parts of SONKO’s formative years and undoubtedly paved the way for their love of bass music. Their London upbringing, engulfed by these sounds and beyond, continues to influence the way that this multi-genre DJ embarks on sonic explorations today. However, rest assured that no genre is off limits for SONKO as the selector is instead driven by a deep connection to rhythm, whatever form that may take.

SONKO is a THF radio resident. Their Mixed Emotions show, broadcast every 8 weeks on the Berlin community station, takes an emotion as a starting point for a melodic adventure. SONKO is also a regular on Refuge Worldwide, where they've contributed a rich mix of shows.

In the 1960s and 1970s, as part of two recruitment agreements between Germany and South Korea, thousands of South Koreans came to the Federal Republic of Germany—which was facing a shortage of skilled workers—to work as miners and nurses. Although their labor contributed significantly to the economic development of the Federal Republic of Germany, their life stories remain largely marginalized in cultural debates about migration to this day. With »매난국죽 Mae Nan Guk Juk: Diasporic Memories Formed in Clay«, the Korean-German artist Frank Jimin Hopp takes this gap as the starting point for an artistic exploration. Through interviews with members of this first generation, Hopp reconstructs memories of migration, caregiving, loss, friendship, and new beginnings. Accompanying these video works was a collaborative artistic process that resulted in a multitude of ceramic objects. The time-intensive process of shaping the ceramics creates space for narratives, activates biographical memories, and translates them into a material form.

Anhand der Werke die unter Anderem aus dem Familienarchiv der Künstlerin stammen werden historische und aktuelle Beziehungen und geopolitische Kontinuitäten aufgezeigt.

Die Führung vermittelt einen Überblick über die Ausstellung sowie ihre zentralen Themen und Zusammenhänge.

Moderation: Gabriela Seith

Aghet (Աղետ), which means “the catastrophe” in Armenian, is the term used to describe the genocide of the Armenians. Between 1915 and 1917, an estimated 1.5 million Armenians were deported and murdered in the Ottoman Empire. Many survivors were forced into exile and established new diaspora communities around the world, which to this day preserve the stories of the survivors, pass on knowledge, and create spaces for exchange and remembrance. To this day, the genocide is officially denied by the Turkish government. In Germany, the Bundestag passed a resolution on the Armenian Genocide in 2016, in which it also acknowledged the shared responsibility of the German Empire as a military ally of the Ottoman Empire at the time.

The invited guests will discuss current issues surrounding a transnational culture of remembrance based on solidarity: How can artistic, activist, and scholarly approaches help bring to light repressed histories of violence or contested memories?

Guided tour of the exhibition »Die gesiezte Tochter. My Total Deconstruction of an Armenian Family« with artist Beatrice Moumdjian and Eylem Sengezer (Curator / Head of Contemporary Art). Drawing on works that originate, among other sources, from the artist’s family archive, the tour will highlight historical and contemporary connections as well as geopolitical continuities.

The tour provides an overview of the exhibition and its central themes and contexts.
