As its' French name „Regard“ suggests, the collection hopes to inspire a deeper gaze towards that which is being viewed. "It's about creating a space in which people can engage in a meaningful exchange with each other and with the work." Situated on the Steinstrasse in the Mitte district of Berlin within the Spandau Quarter and just 10 minutes away from Alexanderplatz, the Collection Regard has be

come a magnet for collectors and enthusiasts. Significantly, it's also a showcase for the (re)discovery of important photographers and their work. Marc Barbey has been collecting photography in earnest since 2005. He's sought out gems from the earliest beginnings of the form up to the 1970s, concentrating on German photography and Berlin in particular as motif. To date, Collection Regard administers the substantial oeuvre of Hein Gorny and holds work by Lotte Jacobi, Siegfried Lauterwasser, Heinrich Riebesehl, Toni Schneiders, Friedrich Seidenstücker and Will McBride as well as select pieces by Paul Almasy, Bruno Barbey and Robert Capa.

"Amin El Dib - Folders, cracks, and papers"

In the official program of the Rencontres d´Arles 18, rue de la Calade 13200 Arles. Nr 7 on the map. In the FOTOHAUS 2022 in the second floor of the Fondation Manuel Rivera-Ortiz.

Exhibition: July 4 - September 25, 2022

A catalogue is being published by Collection Regard with texts by Susanne Husemann and Amin El Dib

Curator : Marc Barbey

Amin El Dib (*1961, Kairo) follows a unique path of brutal deconstruction in his images. The new construction, the design of the destroyed image, touches the retina and thus reaches into our innermost being to the point of causing pain. The concept is to capture the ephemeral nature and fragility of life. We show the early works of the Artaud Portfolios (1988–1992) that were created in Berlin, in particular in Kreuzberg. El Dib photographed many of the performances of the collective „Theater Artaud“ which presented plays by Artaud, Lautréamont, Pound or Cendrars in the spirit of Antonin Artaud (1896–1948) both in demolished buildings or catacombs as well as in the Künstlerhaus Bethanien, SO36 or the Hamburger Bahnhof. Artaud developed the “Theatre of Cruelty“ which broke with the classical mediation of literature and offered compositions with sound and voice, dance and gestures. Stage and audience merged with the aim of giving the viewer a completely new sensual experience, even bringing them into a trance, experiences that El Dib mirrors in his photographs.

The experimental work Fotopapiere (Photographic Papers, 2002–2006), in which light-sensitive paper is exposed to light for long periods of time, will be presented. In addition, the new cycle Your All Beauty (2020), consisting of collages, will be part of the exhibition.

This exhibition allows you to experience the trajectory of Amin El Dib‘s work from its beginnings to the present day. Many of these works are presented for the first time ever. After Arles, the exhibition will be shown at Collection Regard in Berlin.

Thank you to Monopol and Daniel Völzke for the article "The ideals are ruined, save the ruin!" (slogan of the occupants) about the Tacheles eviction 10 years ago with photographs of .rost.berlin

For the first time 20 of these photographs can be seen at Collection Regard Steinstrasse 12, 10119 Berlin, till September 30.

The "Tacheles" cycle (1990-1993) from Andreas Rost wo was in the first round of occupants (who named it this way) is the only and unique photographic documentation of this world famous spot and its artists in their ateliers in its founding.

One set of approx. 40 vintage prints prevails.

After its failure as a collective, the merchandization of the house and the eviction in 2012, hunderts of millions of euros (estimated 600M€) are being poured/ invested momentarily in the soon to be "first worldwide real estate project to be certified allergy-friendly" (sic) at square meter prices up to 31.000€. On a plot that was legally to be only of cultural use.

The result? We will soon be able to see.

Will the founding artists wo invented Tacheles be honored? We will soon be able to see.

Peter Moors, one of the Tacheles artists wrote: "What remains is this and that, and, and, and. The way. The sky over the house is the same sky as over the city, as the sky over the whole country.

Galerie COLLECTION REGARD
