The Feuerle Collection Private museum in Berlin, juxtaposing contemporary artists with Imperial Chinese furniture and ancie

The Feuerle Collection juxtaposes international contemporary artists with Imperial Chinese furniture and ancient Southeast Asian art. Located in a former Second World War telecommunications bunker that has been renovated by the British architect John Pawson, the museum encourages a conversation between different periods and cultures, offering an alternative perception of ancient art and creates a

new perspective on the pieces, adopting a synesthetic approach. On display are stone, bronze and wood Khmer sculptures from the 7th - 13th century, Imperial Chinese lacquer and stone furniture; wood and stone Chinese Scholar furniture from the Han Dynasty to Qing Dynasty, from 200 BC to the 18th century. They are juxtaposed with works by contemporary artists, including Cristina Iglesias, Anish Kapoor, Zeng Fanzhi, James Lee Byars, Nobuyoshi Araki and Adam Fuss.

This January is your last chance to see our Silk Room exhibition, “ Natural Beauty. Curated Nature.” every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at The Feuerle Collection.
The exhibition presents symbols of prosperity in an enchanting setting where light and space form a total work of art, juxtaposing pieces from the collection with natural objects, exploring both the artistic and the organic.
For Désiré Feuerle, whether it’s a natural stone or an imperial Chinese object, the emotional resonance is the same. His use of light and space evokes the shared human consciousness underlying all forms of beauty.
These objects transcend their cultural and temporal origins, connecting us through their ability to evoke a timeless sense of wonder.

Step into a 2,000-year-old tradition, once reserved for scholars, high monks, Emperors, and dignitaries of the Imperial Court. The Feuerle Collection is the first art museum to present Chinese incense culture as an artistic practice, blending ancient tradition with contemporary vision.

Created by Désiré Feuerle, this authentic yet modern ceremony uses rare incense like Green Qinan, Bhutan Qinan, and Hainan Agarwood, exploring the profound relationship between scent, senses, and spirit.

Surrounded by Khmer sculptures, minimalist architecture, and artworks by Nobuyoshi Araki, Adam Fuss, and Anish Kapoor, this 50-minute performance is a one-of-a-kind journey into the art of incense.

The philosophy behind the Collection, as shaped by Désiré Feuerle, embodies a purity of vision that is deeply compelling. Through a thoughtful interplay of space, light, and silence, visitors are invited into a contemplative journey, quietly engaging with each piece. This arrangement reveals Désiré Feuerle’s rare ability to view art with an untainted, childlike wonder—a perspective that strips away external influences and allows each artwork to touch the soul. Visitors are gently encouraged to reflect and embark on their own personal discovery within this unique experience.

Founded in 2016 by Désiré Feuerle and Sara Puig, The Feuerle Collection is an interdisciplinary art institution located in the former telecommunications bunker from WWII, renovated by John Pawson. The philosophy behind the Collection, as shaped by Désiré Feuerle, embodies a purity of vision that is deeply compelling. The collection’s cultural program combines Imperial Chinese furniture, from the Han to the early Qing dynasty (200 BC–17th C), early Khmer sculptures, from 7th–13th C, and international contemporary art in a total artwork of groundbreaking juxtapositions. These juxtapositions are not based on classical iconographic comparisons, but rather on a pioneering exploration of emotional resonance. They bring together pieces from vastly different cultures, periods, and media, creating a delicate harmony that appeals to the senses more than to reason or established art-historical conventions. The institutional cultural activities encompass temporary art shows, artist talks, film screenings, incense and tea ceremonies, dance performances, concerts, fashion shows, meditation and gong baths.
