In Carina Linge’s work, literary quotations and art historical references are also subliminal evidence that love and death have always moved people universally.

Back to business in Berlin! »THE UNSAID« by is still open until February 8, 2025.

This is the first time the artist takes a look at herself with her series of psychogram-like portraits of usually selected female artists. Profound emotional worlds become visible in Carina Linge’s perfectly staged still lifes and body paintings. Sensual beauty meets a great melancholy and fragility, which not only relates to the protagonists in their individual situations, but can also be felt on a higher level. Losses, changes and the challenges of new phases of life are tangible in many different ways.

Happy new year and welcome back!
»UNSAID« by is open again and you can visit us until FEBRUARY 8, 2025.

Atmospherically and symbolically charged photographs, presented in multi-part image tableaux, are characteristic of Carina Linge’s artistic approach. With her latest works, the Leipzig-based artist continues her series of psychogram-like portraits of selected female artists. She also takes a look at herself.

Door 23 already & only one more to go but first we focus on »P.O.V.« by
In her works, Elisa Manig plays not only with our visual experience but also with our fundamental understanding of how our physical world works. With disturbing ease, she questions our intuitive ability to react, exposes our very own human impulses and protective instincts and takes them ad absurdum. By undermining our ability to assess our environment, she is able to unsettle us: What do we really see here? Can we trust our perception? And do we have to take action ourselves so that everything doesn’t fall into pieces in the next moment?

Door 21 couldn’t be more magical with »White Dwarf Series I« by .
It is against this background of unease and disturbance that contemporary art is shaped and defined, and David Eager Maher’s complex paintings reflect the collapse of cultural certainties and conventional social narratives. Nevertheless, there is tenuous but stubborn coherence in his visual stories and theatrical mise-en-scènes; their disparate elements are held together by imagination and a faint sense of hope, connections that may be obscure to the viewer but are surely felt by the artist. They are positioned somewhere between the past and the future.

Here we are at door 20, eye to eye with an untitled self portrait by .
Intuitively, Malwine Stauss often finds an amazing proximity to those of Christian icons in the central placement and arrangement of her pictorial personnel - which should not be a coincidence, since both places are about the auratic presentation of powerful symbolic figures. Spirituality is in the works of Malwine Stauss also present in terms of content: Already during her studies, she found an artistic affinity and inspiration in the works of Spritist painters of the 19th and 20th centuries such as Hilma af Klint, Emma Kunz and Georgiana Houghton. Again and again - and especially in her book of the same name - the artist confronts us with witches („Hexen“) and associates them with knowledge, self-determination, influence, power and closeness to nature: characteristics, values and places of longing of many women worldwide The stories that Malwine Stauss creates with her drawings, text formations and books are personal and abstract at the same time. They tell of life experiences and journeys, emotions and moods, encounters and human connections. They trace the human constitution, fears, longings and inner movements. In her life-affirming pictures, Malwine Stauss creates a utopia that is at the same time a manifestation of what already exists in our world: solidary communities, awakening - and strong women in the most positive sense.

Door 19 invites us into the mountains with »Am Zahn des Riesen« by .merkel.art
Mountains have always been places of projection, emotionality and intense experience.
They rise up in our landscapes primordially and sublimely and stand since then for our aspirations, our fears, for overcomings, triumphs and failures as well as for protection and danger. As seats of gods, places of spiritual contemplation, cult worship or even crucifixions, they are narratively charged sites of various religions and, beyond that, strongholds of cultural creations, places of sovereignty and overview as well as – for some of us - the epitome of a travel destination.
Michael Merkel has dedicated himself to the mountains as a hiker, climber, explorer, observer and last but not least as an artist.

Door 18 let’s us reminisce about our latest summer memory with »Sunny side of the street« by .
The artist looks out of his corner, stands on his familiar position and understands the world from the window of his perspective. From this point everything is double-faced, there are no one-sided truths: Each statement meets its opposite. In Moritz Schleime’s works, the paralyzing resignation of a lonely person meets the accelerated loudness of vibrant masses, a dreary colorlessness with exuberant festivity, posthuman monster creatures with human emotions.

Door 17 gives us »Harvest« by .
There is something ‘hauntological’ about Maher’s images. Inspired by Jacques Derrida, the writer Mark Fisher described ‘hauntology’ as a kind of nostalgia for failed dreams, a yearning for what he called ‘lost futures’, which are possibilities and aspirations embraced by the modernist project but never realised, nullified by neoliberalism’s empty promises. It is sometimes suggested that progressive modernism has disappeared, and that contemporary culture has all but abandoned enlightening goals, but ‘hauntology’ shows that the past can sometimes return to trouble or encourage us. The counterculture of the 1960s created a temporary hiatus between the increasingly bland ambitions of mainstream modernism and the shallow emptiness of much that came afterwards; despite elements of self-delusion, its awkward utopianism was hopeful and inspiring.

Door 16 reveals the work »Schwämmchen« by .
The Hamburg-based artist puts us in an intense state of physical and sensual engagement. Like in a whirl, we as viewers try to orient ourselves and to fathom the relationship of her works to the surrounding space, but again and again we encounter irritations and supposedly impossible constellations in which weight, gravity, tension and dynamics seem to follow new laws. With a reduced formal language and often cheerful, light colours, the artist processes elements from our everyday world.

Door 14 unlocks this gloomy untitled work by .
With ease and confidence, the artist transforms singular brushstrokes into treetops, creating an astonishingly associative atmosphere and sensuality with painterly clarity, reduction and pointedness - even in the abstract. Oliver Gröne always takes the viewer seriously and honestly presents his painterly means to them. He is not interested in the pretended illusion of a specific place or object, but in showing them something essential in order to enable them to locate themselves in the pictorial space they have imagined.

Happy Friday! Door 13 carries the mezzotinto print »OSAC 13« by
Diffuse blurs, geometric-abstract forms and complex collages - Majla Zeneli always uses the almost forgotten mezzotint printing technique to masterfully create touching visual worlds that allow us as viewers to immerse ourselves, linger and think ahead. In the interplay of patterns, layers and variables, the artist focuses on the light in her latest works. Contrasts of light and dark, black and white in all their facets and mergers up to text passages and letters lead into a multi-layered meditation on emptiness, the hidden, origins and eternities.

Already half way through to christmas! Door 12 opens up to »Deadline« by Jānis Šneiders.
With a few strokes and reduced colors, the Latvian artist designs spaces in his oil paintings that at first glance seem like abstract color fields or patterns. Only at second sight, objects and architectural situations become concrete: Whether an elon- gated basin, a corner, a pillar, a bench or a window – inevitably, tiles and absolute darkness form a contrast, the drama of which is counteracted in a strange, even absurd way by the almost unbearable calm of the scenery. In their massiveness, the paintings seem like monuments or symbols of the unconscious.
