On Sunday, May 17, Czech President Petr Pavel toured the permanent exhibition “Crime Without a Name” at the Theresienstadt Centre for Genocide Studies. He learned about the story of Raphael Lemkin, the author of the term genocide, the findings of research in the field of genocide studies, and the documentation of the most significant cases of genocidal violence in the 20th century: the Herero genocide in southwestern Africa, the Armenian genocide, the Holocaust, the Holodomor, and the genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, and Srebrenica. In the visitor‘s book, President Petr Pavel wrote: “Genocide is the greatest and, unfortunately, recurring failure of the human race. It is absolutely essential to name this failure, uncover its causes, and convey this knowledge to generations who have never encountered manifestations of genocide.” The exhibition was guided by its creators, Šimon Krbec, Pavel Chalupa, and Michal Pěchouček.
