Leica Gallery Prague joins the tributes marking what would have been Václav Havel’s 90th birthday with an exhibition of photographs by Karel Cudlín (*1950). For this occasion, Cudlín has selected nearly 150 photographs from his archive. Over the years, Cudlín developed a personal relationship with Václav Havel, one he considers among the most valuable relationships in his life and one that went far beyond the usual relationship between a president and his official photographer.
Karel Cudlín is one of the most prominent figures in Czech documentary photography. In addition to numerous publications, he has presented his work in hundreds of exhibitions. Among his extensive body of work, he is best known for long-term photographic series including Burning Love, Lucerna, Workers, Refugees, Ukraine, Vanishing Worlds, and The Revival of Religious Communities, among many others.
