Otto Češka (1924–2002)
Born in Vienna, Češka studied architecture in Prague before returning to Vienna in 1948. His work—ranging from early residential high-rises and cinemas to single-family homes and numerous housing projects—was shaped by the principles of classical modernism.
In the later years of his career, he became a generous supporter of emerging architects (PAUHOF and Ceska–Priesner).
This exhibition presents a selection of his work from the 1950s and 1960.
Venue: Extrazimmer, Nelkengasse 2, Vienna

Ambiguity is an omnipresent element in Dominik Adamec’ sculptures, installations, and essays.

The artist adopts this approach in response to the limiting nature of the social and scientific categories used to describe the world. Categories such as man and nature, or plants and animals, are necessary but overly simplistic. The apparent clarity with which these distinctions are understood dissolves when confronted with other languages and cultural contexts. Moreover, such categories do not always align with what is felt or observed. For example, plants were once denied the ability to feel, and animals the capacity for empathy; today, the opposite is often asserted.

As a result, his work deliberately creates space for anomalies and incongruities that evade classification or exist between established categories. For him, engaging with anomalies and forming new hybrids functions as a tool for self-reflection, challenging learned patterns of perception.

To articulate this worldview, he has developed a method of working with content and diverse narratives, referred to as the Chimeric Method. This concept draws on both the biological phenomenon of chimerism and the historical motif of the Chimera.

The medium of ceramics enables him to merge previously developed ideas into a new, cohesive whole. He describes this as a magmatic conglomerate, symbolically referencing the process of kiln firing, during which elements melt and fuse into a unified form—a new natural-artificial hybrid.

Jakub Matuška aka Masker started out with graffiti and street art and today focuses primarily on painting and drawing, occasionally crossing over into sculpture, video, installations and public interventions.

The artist has been blending his boyish, ironic and poetic reflections on contemporary urban life with an examination of his own holistic experience. The persistent question ‘how should a person be?’ serves as the foundation for his ever-inquiring exploration into the fraught relationship between image and language, as well as between painting and drawing, and into the different capabilities these media possess in making sense of our surroundings. More than a decade of combining traditional painting techniques, computer manipulation of handdrawn sketches and the use of an airbrush on large canvases have allowed him to explore questions of flatness and depth, solid and liquid, digital and analogue, transient and eternal, symbolic and every day, and charming and confusing, creating his own rhetoric and dismantling conceptual and formal certainties in the process.

Miroslava Klesalová’s monotypes and silk papers reimagine landscape as geometric cadastral fragments – psychic, cultural traces reassembled from destruction. More delicate than her geotextile expanses, silk paper evokes meditative gardens through handcrafted layers of care and time.

Václav Kopecký’s conceptual photography approaches the medium as a physical tool shifting perspective – not mere reflection, but analysis through memory, histories, and technologies. Alluding to enclosed worlds with their own rules, he processes images traditionally to interrogate photography as perceptual mode.

The original impulse for this artistic, research-oriented, and interdisciplinary exhibition project AMPLIFICATION is a reflection on the way ecological reality reveals itself to us: it is not something external to us, but a tangled network of being that touches our body and mind simultaneously. The project is a direct continuation of Daniel Vlček’s residency in the Venice Lagoon in 2023 and expands to include the work of additional authors and interdisciplinary collaborations. In the initial project during the Venice Biennale 2024, Daniel Vlček explored the concept of the “lagoon” as a symbol of a complex ecological superorganism, where the boundaries between culture and nature intermingle, and daily confrontations arise in the relationship between element and being. This multimedia exhibition, on the boundary between site-specific installations and a scientific laboratory, seeks to simulate natural planetary processes as well as to amplify biological and physical processes that shape the transforming environmental conditions of life in the Anthropocene.
