✧The exhibition explores the return of heavy machinery and infrastructural systems to the centre of our attention at a time when digital ideology promised their invisibility and “weightlessness.” Against the backdrop of contemporary wars, ecological crises, and the collapse of sustainable futures, machines re-emerge as ambivalent symbols of power, destruction, and anxiety. The project traces how technology appears in contemporary visual culture as an “infrastructural spectre” of modernity, bringing materiality, labour, and violence back into view.

✧ Výstava zkoumá návrat těžké techniky a infrastrukturních systémů do centra naší pozornosti v době, kdy digitální ideologie slibovala jejich neviditelnost a „beztížnost“. Na pozadí současných válečných konfliktů, ekologických krizí a rozpadu představ o udržitelné budoucnosti se stroje znovu objevují jako ambivalentní symboly moci, destrukce i úzkosti. Projekt sleduje, jak technologie v obrazech současnosti vystupují jako „infrastrukturní přízraky“ modernity a znovu zviditelňují materialitu, práci a násilí stojící za zdánlivě nehmotným světem digitálních sítí.

Workshop pájení s Resistance Support Club, dobrovolnickou iniciativou poskytující materiální, technologickou a finanční podporu ukrajinskému
obyvatelstvu. Přijďte si vyrobit svůj vlastní svítící přívěsek. Workshop je vhodný jak pro dospělé, tak děti od 10 let. Zkušeností s pájením nejsou třeba. Veškeré vybavení bude na místě. Pro přihlášení na workshop je potřeba zaregistrovat se emailem na adrese [email protected]

Resistance Support Club je dobrovolnická iniciativa, která poskytuje materiální, technologickou a finanční podporu ukrajinskému obyvatelstvu s důrazem na levicové aktivisty sloužící v ukrajinské armádě. Kolektiv vznikl z potřeby propojit kulturní a politický aktivismus s konkrétními formami pomoci v krizových situacích. Resistance Support Club organizuje benefiční akce, diskuse a vzdělávací programy, které tematizují odpor, kolektivní péči a současné podoby antifašistického a emancipačního aktivismu.

Meet the artists of our upcoming exhibition |The Shock Workers of a New Horror

✧ ‍Matouš Střelec is a student of the Interdisciplinary Studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and works primarily with painting and drawing. His practice explores the role of violence in popular culture and art, as well as processes of collapse and disintegration, whether societal or cosmic in scale. For the exhibition at Display, he created a series of paintings inspired by war metal, and the visual language of Otto Dix, reimagining the horrors of First World War trench warfare.

Meet the artists of our upcoming exhibition |The Shock Workers of a New Horror

✧ ‍Polina Davydenko is an artist working across photography, video, sound, and research. Her practice examines the environmental, social, and sensory consequences of war, focusing on the ways military violence reshapes landscapes, infrastructures, and everyday life. Returning repeatedly to her native Dobropillia in the Donetsk region, she documents territories marked by the ongoing Russian invasion, tracing the entanglement of ecological degradation, displacement, and survival. For the exhibition at Display, she presents a sound installation in which air-raid sirens are reproduced through the voices of classical singers Darina Konoplya and Anastasia Hart. By translating a technologically generated warning signal into a human voice, the work reveals how the experience of war becomes inscribed directly into bodies and everyday perception.

✧ ‍Šimon Chlouba is a Czech artist whose work focuses on the intersections of the body, labour, and technological infrastructure. Drawing on his experience as a high-altitude technician of telecommunications networks, he uses painting to explore how human perception and bodily experience are shaped by contemporary technological systems. For the exhibition at Display, he presents a series of paintings based on his work installing 5G transmitters, depicting the body as an active participant within complex flows of information, energy, and signals.

✧ ‍Andrew Roberts incorporates elements from gameplay, roleplay and worldbuilding into his multi-platform practice, recognizing in these mechanisms a cultural structure where consumption and production become one. Exploring the material dimension of horror, Roberts’s digital animations, installations, sculptures and poetry treat colonial agents as possessed images and haunted spaces. He is primarily concerned with representational systems, and the geographical tensions between Mexico and the United States of America.
