One catch: none of it was yours. Under communism, the fields, tractors and cows all belonged to the JZD, the collective farm. "Owned by everyone" really meant owned by the state. 🚜

🌊 Dreaming of the sea? Under communism, that dream came with paperwork.

You couldn't just go. First you needed an exit permit, then permission for foreign currency, and even then the state decided how much. Yugoslavia was the dream, and some who went never came back. For everyone else, the sea was a lake called Lipno and a queue for lemonade. 🥤
