Koncept New Media Art TODAY pracuje s tématem aktuálního diskurzu a podob audiovizuálního, digitálního či online umění, které bylo dříve označováno pojmem “new media art”. Cyklus přednášek se zvanými hosty a hostkami bude ve Vašulka Kitchen Brno hledat možné transformace pojmu nová média i jeho kritické reflexe a zároveň otevírat témata, která v této oblasti i napříč obory v současnosti rezonují.
Přednášky a prezentace nabídnou různé perspektivy prostřednictvím příspěvků odborníků a odbornic působících na české a slovenské scéně.
Jedním ze záměrů série je rovněž navázat na odkaz Woodyho a Steiny Vašulkových, kteří stáli u zrodu uměleckého diskurzu nových médií v našem regionu. V návaznosti na jejich odkaz se cyklus zaměřuje na reflexi aktuálních výzev, témat a proměn, které tuto oblast formují dnes.
Výběr témat je propojen se širšími společensko-kulturními souvislostmi, jež přesahují rámec samotného umění a poukazují na jeho vývoj i potenciál rozšiřovat se směrem k dalším disciplínám. Přednášky, doplněné o prezentace a diskuse, jsou určeny všem, kteří se zajímají o interdisciplinární průniky mezi uměním, technologiemi, filozofií, kritickou teorií a dalšími vědami.

The New Media Art TODAY concept engages with current discourse and contemporary forms of audiovisual, digital, and online art that have traditionally been referred to as “new media art”. Through a series of lectures featuring invited guests, Vašulka Kitchen Brno will explore possible transformations of the concept of new media, as well as its critical re-evaluations, while opening up topics that currently resonate both within this field and across disciplines.
The lectures and presentations will offer a range of perspectives through contributions by experts active in the Czech and Slovak art scenes.
One of the aims of the series is also to build upon the legacy of Woody Vašulka and Steina, who were among the pioneers of new media art discourse in our region. Drawing on their legacy, the programme focuses on reflecting upon the current challenges, themes, and transformations shaping the field today.
The selection of topics is connected to broader socio-cultural contexts that extend beyond the boundaries of art itself, highlighting both its development and its potential to expand into other disciplines. Accompanied by presentations and discussions, the lectures are intended for everyone interested in interdisciplinary intersections between art, technology, philosophy, critical theory, and other fields of inquiry.
