👑The ding came to be regarded as a paramount ritual vessel of the state, symbolizing royal authority and political power.
Hence, the establishment of a capital or the founding of a dynasty was often described as “setting up the ding.”
This Nipple-nailed square Ding with beast face patterns (1600-1300B.C.) is an important royal ritual vessel of the early Shang dynasty. It provides material evidence that the Shang established their capital in the Central Plains during this period.

Welcoming the Year of the Horse (2026) with a Gilt Bronze Horse!
February 17, 2026, marks “the First Day of the Year” (大年初一) in China. It is a time for new beginnings, family reunions, and hopes for the year ahead.
This gilt bronze horse from the Eastern Han Dynasty (25 to 220 CE) was unearthed in Luoyang, Henan Province, in 1974. The horse stands proudly with its head raised and mouth open, ears alert, a neatly trimmed mane, and a lifted tail. Delicate incised patterns decorate its body, capturing the vitality and strength of horses in ancient China.
May the Year of the Horse bring you courage, speed, and good fortune!
