The MOFBA, or "Museum Of Foreign Brand Advertising", is a private and non-profit collection located in Shanghai, China. It showcases the captivating history of international brands advertising & selling to Chinese consumers during the Golden Age of the First Republic of China 1912 to 1949. Today the collection comprises of approximately 1,000 artifacts, including advertising calendar posters, enam
el signs, vintage products & packaging, magazine and newspaper ads, booklets, flyers, giveaways, maps, commercial correspondence, ephemera and many other historic documents and objects. The Museums mission is to foster cross-cultural understanding by celebrating the close to 200-year-long history of modern trade between China and the rest of the world, through the lens of commercial art, design, fashion, photography, language and the wider cultural landscape of the time. Our unique approach to bringing this history to life is to tell the stories of the brands and people behind each and every item from the collection with engaging long-form storytelling published on our blog and various social media channels.
