A Wonderful Day of Friendship and Discovery at Six Arts Museum!

It’s never too late to discover something new, especially when you’re surrounded by good friends!
On October 13, we had the pleasure of welcoming 30 retired teachers from Shanghai for a special group visit to Six Arts Museum.

The day began with a delightful lunch prepared by our Fortune Museum Restaurant, where old friends gathered around the table to share stories and laughter.

After lunch, the group explored our rooftop Chuiwan mini golf course, learning about this traditional Chinese pastime and the cultural inspiration behind its design.
They also toured the museum, discovering fascinating examples of traditional Chinese folk art, intricate wood carvings, and historic everyday objects.

It was a lovely reminder that museums are not just places to see history. They are places to connect, learn, and create new memories together.

We look forward to welcoming more friends, alumni groups, and cultural organizations to Six Arts!

From International Student to Museum Founder — A Story That Comes Full Circle

During the Mid-Autumn Festival, Six Arts Museum welcomed international students from several countries for a cultural exchange gathering organized by HOPE International Education.

For museum founder Mitch Dudek, the occasion was especially meaningful. In the 1980s, Mitch arrived in China as a foreign exchange student, studying and experiencing life in Beijing and Shanghai. More than four decades later, he shared those memories with young international students beginning their own journeys in China.

He also spoke about his experiences living in China, the history and mission of Six Arts Museum, and the importance of understanding Chinese culture. The students explored the museum’s remarkable collection of Chinese folk art and experienced the cultural heritage of Jiangnan.

We hope their time at Six Arts will become one of many memorable experiences during their studies in China.

Traditional Chinese Art Meets Contemporary Design Education

Faculty from Suzhou Art & Design Technology Institute recently visited Six Arts Museum for a professional training and study program focused on cultural and creative design.

Throughout the visit, the teachers explored the museum’s extensive collections of traditional furniture, carvings, paintings, folk art and craftsmanship, looking closely at the forms, patterns, materials and techniques that have shaped Chinese decorative arts.

The program also included a hands-on traditional fan-painting activity, connecting historic artistic traditions with contemporary creative practice.

The visit marks another step toward deeper collaboration between the institute and Six Arts Museum. The museum’s collections can provide students with real objects to study and new sources of inspiration for future design and graduation projects.

A museum can be more than a place to preserve the past. It can also be a classroom, a research resource and a source of inspiration for the future.

A journey through time at Six Arts Museum. ✨

For this special video, modern clothing gives way to traditional Chinese dress as our visitors wander among thousands of pieces of Chinese folk art, antique furniture, carved woodwork and historic architectural elements.

What makes the setting special is that these aren’t movie props or recreated sets. They are real objects from China’s past, preserved and displayed throughout Six Arts Museum.

The result is a meeting of past and present—and a wonderful new way to experience the museum.

What’s in the Painting Is in the Museum

More than 200 years ago, Prosperous Suzhou (《姑苏繁华图》) captured a thriving city filled with shops, restaurants, traditional pharmacies and everyday life.

Look closely at the painting — then walk through Six Arts Museum.

Old shop signs, Chinese medicine cabinets, tables, chairs and countless other objects from everyday Chinese life can be found throughout the museum.

The painting gives us a window into old Suzhou. Six Arts lets us step through it.

Recently, young reporters from Jinjia Village Primary School, Tuncun Experimental School, Bache Primary School, and Tongli Experimental School visited the Six Arts Museum. They embarked on a cultural treasure hunt as “Little Guardians of Folk Art”!

Exploring the museum’s vast collection of traditional wood carvings, antique furniture, and folk art, each piece rich with ancestral wisdom and blessings, and guided by our docents, the children enjoyed an up-close look and discovered many stories behind these treasures.

Inside the ancient Chinese Basket Gallery, students crafted bamboo boats surrounded by thousands of woven folk art artifacts. Creating a handmade bamboo boat inside the museum’s basket gallery turned a simple creative activity into a vivid cultural experience, bringing tradition to life and forming a heartfelt connection with the everyday beauty of the past.
