A closer look at Tang Dynasty stone carving. 🗿

This Stone Seated Maitreya Buddha dates back to the Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907). Interestingly, it was excavated from a brick-built well from the later Song Dynasty in Yiwu.

On loan from the Yiwu Museum, this piece is currently on display in our Silver Mountain Moon exhibition.

💖 A heartwarming transnational handicraft encounter!✨

Recently, CNSM and the Central State Museum of Kazakhstan co-hosted the "Boundless Craftsmanship: China-Kazakhstan Inclusive Silk Handicraft Experience Activity" for youths with invisible disabilities.

When Chinese Song Brocade meets Kazakh wool felt, cultural heritage becomes warmth at your fingertips! Participants made tulip felt tapestries, DIYed Song Brocade brooches, and received cute Kazakh yurt pendants 🎁.

True accessibility means empowering everyone to create in their own way! 🥰

🤝 A new partnership with another museum in Kazakhstan!

On July 22, the China National Silk Museum and the National Central Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan Қазақстан Республикасы Ұлттық орталық музейі officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding. ✨

Director Serzhan Sarov and his delegation visited our silk-themed exhibitions and toured the textile conservation laboratory, where they spoke highly of our advanced technologies in textile conservation and restoration. 🔍

Over the next five years, the two museums will deepen their collaboration through joint exhibitions, cultural heritage conservation, and academic exchanges.

We look forward to seeing this partnership inspire new ideas and bring the stories of Silk Road culture to audiences around the world! 🌍

What did international currency look like on the ancient Silk Road? 🪙

✨ Sasanian Silver Coin (Tang Dynasty)
From the collection of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Museum, this piece is now on display at CNSM's "Silver Mountain Moon: Gaochang and Kucha on the Silk Road" exhibition.

🔍 Found hidden in a mountain rock crevice in Wuqia County along with over 900 other coins, this silver coin is a true Silk Road treasure! The front features the bust of a king (mainly Khosrow II), while the back displays a Zoroastrian fire altar. These coins serve as sparkling evidence of the booming trade and deep cultural exchange between ancient China and the Persian Sasanian Empire.
