Haegue Yang “Sonic Droplets – Amber“. Art in architecture at the University Children’s Hospital Zurich, Eleonoren Foundation.

In the Room of Silence of the new children’s hospital hangs Haegue Yang’s “Sonic Droplets – Amber”: a luminous curtain composed of hundreds of stainless-steel bells that resonate softly when passed through. The delicate sound creates a moment of pause — making the silence that follows feel all the more intense.

As part of the art-in-architecture programme, the work brings together architecture, ritual, and sound to create a calming transitional space for patients, relatives, and staff. A place that releases a small sense of lightness with every step.

Claudia Comte “A Family of Three Bunnies (Sam, Kai, Leo)”. Art in architecture at the University Children’s Hospital Zurich, Eleonoren Foundation.

With three bunnies sculpted from white Carrara marble — Sam, Kai, and Leo — Claudia Comte creates a playful welcome in the green inner courtyard of the new children’s hospital. The smoothly polished, U-shaped sculptures emerge from the garden like rabbit ears, inviting visitors to touch, lean, and climb, transforming the hospital entrance into a place of curiosity and lightness.

The bunny family forms part of the art-in-architecture programme and brings Comte’s distinctive blend of nature, humour, and soft organic forms into the Kispi — offering a gentle moment of wonder even before entering the building.

Raphael Hefti “Sternstaubgewürfel – Starmix”. Art in architecture at the University Children’s Hospital Zurich, Eleonoren Foundation.

Like a shimmering comet trail, Raphael Hefti’s “Sternstaubgewürfel – Starmix” extends through the main staircase of the new children’s hospital: 150 glass tubes filled with noble gases, glowing in luminous colours and unfolding like a floating chandelier across several floors.

The light continuously shifts while moving up and down the stairs — a colourful, almost cosmic interplay that makes everyday life in the hospital feel brighter and lighter.

An art-in-architecture work that brings together movement, architecture, and magic — offering a small trace of stardust with every step.

Roman Signer “Vier Kajak”. Art in architecture at the University Children’s Hospital Zurich, Eleonoren Foundation.

With “Vier Kajak”, Roman Signer brings one of his iconic motifs into the children’s hospital — four bright red kayaks that “paddle” vertically through the inner courtyard like a playful wind sculpture. The installation transforms an everyday object into a curious, almost living presence that brings a smile to children and families and momentarily lightens the routines of hospital life.

As part of the art-in-architecture programme, the work combines humour, movement, and Signer’s unmistakable poetic language — an artwork that offers energy, distraction, and lifts the gaze.
