🖼️“When the art world applauds a $236 million sale,
it isn’t celebrating art.
It’s celebrating the survival of its own mythology.”

$236 million.

What if a record sale isn’t a triumph — but a warning?
Gustav Klimt’s Portrait of Elisabeth Lederer just sold for $236.4 million at Sotheby’s — the second-highest price ever paid for an artwork.

To some, it’s proof the market is “back.”
To others, it’s a sign of something deeper: fear disguised as confidence.
History tells a different story: big numbers rarely announce stability — they betray anxiety. When prices soar, they don’t rise on confidence; they rise on the need for reassurance.

Record sales aren’t about art — they’re about assurance.
They convert visibility into legitimacy, capital into myth, power into permanence.
High-value auctions have little to do with cultural health and everything to do with market choreography — end-of-year tax strategies, intergenerational wealth transfers, and discreet asset swaps.

The louder the applause in the auction room,
the quieter the confidence outside it.
In “236.4 Million Reasons to Worry,” we unpack how legacy systems use mythology to sustain value — and why Web3 must stop mirroring those signals.
Because an auction record isn’t a bull signal —
it’s a warning light.

Web3 was never meant to out-price the old world, but to out-context it — to build systems of transparency, preservation, and collective authorship.

✨ Preserving Culture Through New Infrastructures

We pre-launched Collecting Art Onchain — an initiative dedicated to building new infrastructure as a framework for rethinking how culture is preserved and sustained.
It’s not just a book, or marketplace. It is the beginning of a system — a network of preservation built not on markets, but on care, context, and collaboration.

At its heart, The Book On-Chain is a nonprofit framework dedicated to safeguarding digital culture — a living catalogue raisonné for Web3, shaped collectively by artists and collectors.
Since 2016, I’ve watched this space rise, transform, and at times lose sight of its early ideals: decentralization, transparency, independence. Today, as algorithms define visibility and AI rewrites expression, human creativity feels more fragile than ever. We don’t need another marketplace. We need a system that preserves value through meaning. A way to protect authorship, continuity, and the relationships that made this movement matter.

If you believe in that — in culture as code, care, and connection — I invite you to read the full article and be part of this next chapter.

“Because the future of digital culture depends on more than technology. It depends on how we choose to preserve, contextualize, and connect what we create.” – Kate Vass

🌵Our first year in Marfa — and what a magical experience it was!

Over 600 people travelled from all around the world into the middle of the desert to celebrate generative art, meet old friends, and make new ones. ✨

So many incredible moments filled the weekend — from the opening of LIFT by Snowfro at , to Larva Labs unveiling 3D-printed Meebits, the artist & collector sunset gathering, Jeff Davis’s DJ set, and unforgettable nights like Raoul & Blondie Do Marfa and the CryptoDick party hosted by

We’re deeply grateful to , , and everyone at for creating the perfect setting for our Collecting Art Onchain launch.

At its heart, Marfa is about community — and so is Collecting Art Onchain. The book came to life through the artists, collectors, and friends who make this movement what it is.

We were joined by so many inspiring people who signed their chapters and shared their stories — Jeff Davis KarateKid .stone and many more

Thank you to everyone who made this weekend unforgettable.

Proof of Presence: Complete. 🌵✨
