Established in 2005, the Fundaziun Nairs is a unique synthesis of an artist-in-residence program, an art gallery and a culture lab.

Established in 2005, the NAIRS Foundation is a unique synthesis of an art gallery, a cultural centre and an artist-in-residence programme. It links the Engadin with Swiss and international contemporary art. As an art gallery, the NAIRS Foundation hosts exhibitions of Swiss and international contemporary art, as well as a variety of cultural events and colloquia. As a cultural centre in the Engadin

, the NAIRS Foundation deals with the culture, the cultural production and the issues that concern the region. It focuses on cultural self-awareness of the Engadin of today and conducts events relating to the cultural life of the Romansh. As part of its international artists-in-residence programme (AIR), the NAIRS Foundation serves as an artists' house. Every summer it invites 15-20 jury-selected artists to stay and work here for a period of up to several months. The Foundation promotes dialogue and cooperation between different art forms. The focus is on the visual arts, but residencies are also awarded to artists from the fields of music, literature, theatre, dance and science.

Alizé Rose-May Alizé Rose-May (*1990, Bern, Switzerland) explores – through video, photography, objects, research, curation, text and teaching – relationships, the concepts of «kinship» and family, tradition, connections, collectivity and narrative spaces of togetherness. ARM’s interests lie in the archive, the gaps in historiography and the question of how shared life is possible. ARM addresses q***r aspects of everyday life and brings overlooked stories to the fore by drawing on q***r semiotics and a vocabulary of intimacy.

Bertilla Spinas (*1999, Lucerne, Switzerland) works as a visual and performing artist. Much of her practice is conceptual and is guided by the principle that the artistic idea determines the choice of medium. Bertilla’s works are often intended as direct responses to specific spaces or situations. In a playful manner, she creates site-specific conceptual works that bring the seemingly mundane into the realm of socio-political discourse.

Vielen Dank für die wunderschönen Malereien, die traumhaften Klänge und die Verwandlung der Ausstellung «Il glim – die Schwelle» – der Abend wird uns noch lange in Erinnerung bleiben!💜✨

Der bemalte Paravent ist noch bis zum 29. November 2026 in der Ausstellung «Il glim – die Schwelle» von Lika Nüssli zu sehen. Nicht verpassen!

Last Saturday, 22 August, we had the chance to immerse ourselves in the diverse artistic practices of Ruth Amstutz , Alessandro Giannelli Alessandro Giannelli, Ruben Castro , Lucy Cordes Engelman , Ma Haijio Haijiao MA, Lisa Ijeoma LISA UCHECHI IJEOMA, Thomas Splett , Joppe Venema joppevenema and Babette Walder .walder. There was a film to watch, various texts and music to listen to, and anyone who wanted to could have a go on a bike to set a video in motion!🚲

A huge thank you to all the artists for the fascinating insights, and to the many visitors for joining us!🩵

Als sie von einem Kunstwettbewerb auf Djerba erfahren, beginnt ein Roadtrip, der ihr Leben verändern könnte. Erfrischend und voller charmanter Details erzählt Amel Guellaty von einer Generation zwischen Aufbruch und Ernüchterung, die sich nach dem Arabischen Frühling neu erfindet.

🐛 Am nächsten Mittwoch, 26. August 2026 von 18–19 Uhr, findet unsere nächste öffentliche Führung statt!

Die Kuratorin Mia Bodenmüller mia bodenmüller führt durch die Einzelausstellung «Para(rt)sitic Protection Society (PPS)» der ehemaligen Residentin Lena Violetta Leitner .

Lena Violetta Leitner (*1986, lebt und arbeitet in Wien) zeigt in Nairs ihre erste Ausstellung in der Schweiz. Sie verwandelt das Erdgeschoss in das Büro einer fiktiven «Para(rt)sitic Protection Society», die parasitäre Strategien als kreative, subversive Beziehungsformen versteht. In der Ausstellung laden ein Infoterminal, ein Chatbot sowie Rast- und Trainingsstationen zur Interaktion ein.

✨Sneak peek!✨ Diesen Samstag erwartet euch nach dem Gir d’AIR, dem monatlich stattfindenden Rundgang durch die Ateliers unserer aktuellen Resident*innen, eine Performance der Künstlerin Lika Nüssli mit den Musikern Alessandro Giannelli Alessandro Giannelli und Matthieu Gutbub!

In der Ausstellung «Il glim – die Schwelle» von Lika Nüssli steht ein Paravent, bespannt mit durchsichtiger, verführerisch schimmernder, weisser Kunstseide. Er wartet wie eine leere Leinwand auf den 22. August. Denn dann werden die Klänge von Matthieu Gutbubs Cello und Alessandro Giannellis Piano & Electronics den Raum erfüllen und Lika Nüssli wird die Bildfläche im Dialog mit der Musik bemalen. Eine kollektive Improvisation, die die Ausstellung noch einmal verwandeln wird.

🌙 Am Samstag, 22. August ab 16 Uhr ist es wieder so weit – der nächste Gir d’AIR + findet statt! Wir freuen uns, wenn ihr beim Atelierrundgang und bei der anschliessenden malerisch-musikalischen Performance dabei seid!💛

Gir = Rundgang
AIR = Artists in Residence
+ = kulturelles Plus

Die aktuellen Resident*innen – Kunstschaffende, Schreibende, Musiker*innen – öffnen ihre Ateliers und geben Einblick in ihren Arbeitsprozess und ihr aktuelles Schaffen. Der Rundgang wird von Mitarbeitenden der Fundaziun Nairs moderiert und beginnt im Foyer. Ein späteres Dazukommen ist jederzeit möglich.

Im Anschluss an den Atelierrundgang erwartet euch eine Performance der Künstlerin Lika Nüssli in Zusammenarbeit mit den Musikern Alessandro Giannelli Alessandro Giannelli (aktuell als Resident bei uns) und Matthieu Gutbub. Mehr dazu bald in einem separaten Beitrag!✨

The intricate hand-sewn patchworks of Lisa Ijeoma LISA UCHECHI IJEOMA (*1997, Brussels, Belgium) are part of an ongoing research on her intersectional identity. In an attempt to challenge historical stereotypes, objectification, and exploitation of the black female body, her patchworks portray both universal and personal experiences.

Thomas Splett (*1975, Munich, Germany) is a visual artist with a background in thinking. By relating image-theoretical and social-existential questions, his practice balances meaning and its charges. He is currently drawn to volumetric imagery and beauty.

Die Ausstellung «Our da l’atelier – Aus dem Atelier» in Nairs ist Teil des Projekts «Atelier avert – Kunstschaffen im Fokus» in der Region Unterengadin/Val Müstair, organisiert von der Visarte Graubünden. Kunstschaffende geben Einblick in ihre Arbeitsprozesse und zeigen Skizzen, Modelle und unfertige Arbeiten aus ihren Ateliers.
