The International Academy of Ceramics is the main organisation representing the interests of ceramists worldwide. Its membership consists primarily of individual makers, supported by writers and critics, private collectors, museumand gallery curators, educational institutions and ceramic centres. L’Académie Internationale de la Céramique est la seule association représentant les intérêts des céramistes du monde entier. Ses membres sont principalement des artistes individuels soutenus par des écrivains, des conservateurs de musée et directeurs de galerie ainsi que des collectionneurs privés.

🇿🇦 South African Clay Awards 2026

The South African Clay Awards recognise and support excellence in contemporary ceramic practice, with a focus on advancing the visibility of clay as a critical medium within both South Africa and the international arena.

Initiated in 2024, the Awards aim to create a platform that connects artists, curators, and institutions, fostering dialogue, innovation, and professional development. Through a programme of exhibitions, awards, and partnerships, the Awards seek to contribute to the growth and sustainability of the ceramics field.

Forms of Belonging, the finalist exhibition of the 6th Officine Saffi Award, opened on 30 September at Fondazione Officine Saffi in Milan, Italy.

Selected from more than 1,000 applications from 41 countries, 28 finalists are presenting their work in an exhibition exploring contemporary ceramics across art, craft and collectible design.

We are pleased to highlight three IAC members among this year’s finalists:

The Biennale of Contemporary Keramics returns to Greece for its second edition, this time taking place on the island of Rhodes under the title 'Where the Day'.

Bringing together 42 artists, BCK 2026 explores the Mediterranean as a space of connection, exchange and shared heritage, addressing themes such as materiality, cultural identity, sustainability and the environment through contemporary ceramics.

Among the participating artists are IAC members Darien Arikoski-Johnson (United States), and George Vavatsis (Greece), whose works are featured in the exhibition:

Organised by IAC affiliate member Big Blue Dot, the Biennale is accompanied by a programme of lectures, performances, workshops and educational activities throughout its duration.

Celebrating the legacy of former IAC member Edouard Chapallaz.

The mudac museum in Lausanne, Switzerland, is currently paying tribute to Edouard Chapallaz, a leading figure of 20th-century Swiss and European ceramics, with the exhibition 'Edouard Chapallaz – Swiss Ceramic Artist'.

Chapallaz maintained close ties with the International Academy of Ceramics throughout his career. In 1966, he gave a lecture within the framework of the IAC, and in 1972 was invited by Dr Edgar Pélichet to succeed him as President of the Academy, an invitation he ultimately declined in order to dedicate himself to his ceramic practice.

The exhibition coincides with the publication of a new monograph retracing nearly seven decades of his work through photographs, archival material and family testimonies. The publication also includes the text of his 1966 IAC lecture, recently shared from the Academy's archives for the project.

Clay for Peace: creating together, across cultures.

During their Jingdezhen 2026 residency, IAC artists were invited to create a collaborative work – four hands, one piece – together with another IAC member or a local artist.

Presented as part of the IAC International Residencies Exhibition, 'Clay for Peace' reflects one of the Academy’s core missions: fostering peace through greater understanding between people and cultures.

Meeting, sharing, exchanging and working side by side, because collaboration can create connections that go far beyond the work itself.

Jaume Marcó Cambó is a Catalan master ceramist and cultural promoter whose work is rooted in Ceràmiques Marcó, a historic family workshop in Quart with a documented lineage dating to 1473. Leading the workshop since 1972, he has combined the preservation of ceramic heritage with teaching, artistic collaboration, and support for emerging talent. His initiatives also use art and craftsmanship to foster cultural participation, professional inclusion, and social connection.

The Yemisi Shyllon Museum of Art (YSMA) at Pan-Atlantic University is Nigeria’s leading art institution, dedicated to preserving and showcasing the country’s rich artistic heritage. Its extensive collection spans centuries and supports a wide range of exhibitions and educational programs that enrich Nigeria’s cultural landscape. In recognition of its impact, YSMA received Apollo Magazine’s Museum Opening of the Year Award in 2020.

The Luoyang Sancai Art Museum is a Chinese institution dedicated to preserving, researching, and renewing the artistic heritage of Luoyang Sancai. Across its exhibition halls, cultural and creative park, historical museum, and study base, it brings together collections, contemporary creation, education, and international exchange. By connecting centuries-old techniques with new artistic approaches, the museum keeps this distinctive ceramic tradition active and accessible.

Yongmei WU is a Chinese ceramic artist, researcher, and educator whose practice connects artistic creation with teaching and academic inquiry. As an associate professor at Shandong University of Arts, she has contributed extensively to ceramic
education through research projects, publications, and course development. Her works have been presented internationally and collected by institutions including the China Ceramic Museum and Shandong Provincial Museum.
