This post discusses the tragic events that occurred on September 11th 2001.
.. a second plane struck the South Tower of the World Trade Center.
This strike was captured live from the reporters documenting the first strike. Both towers in flames, even more aid was called in to assist the first responders already on site.
2 minutes later, the US president was alerted during his visit at an elementary school in Florida of the second strike.
Panic quickly filled the streets.
Flights grounded. Stock tickers frozen. The world collectively gasped all at once.
By 9:59 EST, while fire crews were trying to extinguish the blaze, the South Tower collapsed. At 10:28 EST, the North Tower would do the same.
The Pentagon was also hit and a plane that was headed to Washington, DC was diverted into Pennsylvania by the plane's passengers.
It was the largest American tragedy on American soil since Pearl Harbor.
Canadians, as they often do, did not wait to help. Within an hour, first responders from Canada came to New York's aid, not waiting to be asked to help. An airport in Newfoundland became the the safe landing spot for those who were redirected, even allowing people into their homes as refuge.
Every year since, firefighters around the world come together to remember the sacrifices of those entangled in this incident.
