As part of Pride Month, The Firefighters' Museum of Nova Scotia is working to become a Rainbow Registered museum!

Rainbow Registered is a program by Canada’s 2SLGBTQI+ Chamber of Commerce that accredits businesses as 2SLGBTQI+ friendly spaces for visitors, staff, and our volunteers.

We at the Firefighters' Museum believe that everyone should be valued, treated equally and all welcomed. As we go on, we will continue to improve our services to be even more welcoming to all.

June is Pride month. Its origins lie in the activism sparked by the Stonewall riots of June 1969, and it continues today as both a celebration and a call to action. Pride is rooted in the courage of people who demanded change, and it continues to ask questions of systems, policies, and attitudes that impact the daily lives of 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals. While progress has been made, many 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals continue to experience discrimination, limited access to affirming services, and concerns about safety. These realities highlight why Pride remains important.

Throughout Pride Season, we acknowledge the ongoing work required to support safer, more welcoming communities where everyone can fully participate and thrive. We encourage everyone to take part in Pride activities in their communities and to continue learning through connection and dialogue. To learn more about the government's commitments to support 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, please review our 2SLGBTQIA+ Action Plan released earlier this year.

Message from the Board President Guy Muise:
On behalf of myself, the Board of Directors for the Firefighters' Museum of Nova Scotia and the staff, we would like to thank everyone who came for the unveiling of our new mural last Friday, as well as all who shared photos showcasing it. With the talent of Danielle Mahood, the infamous Circus Ship Fire of 1963 is portrayed beautifully. We hope everyone can stop in and view it as well as the rest of our fine collection of firefighting equipment from the local area as well as from the entire province of Nova Scotia and the entire world. We are open Monday-Friday 9am-4pm currently.

Thank you,
Guy Muise, Chairman of the FFMNS
