Urgent! Yale & District Historical Society needs your help!

Urgent! Yale & District Historical Society needs your help!

After 40 years of managing Yale Historic Site, the Society has been removed by the provincial government, and the contract has been given to an organization located 220km from Yale, with no pre-existing experience of managing heritage sites. There has also been no Indigenous consultation over these changes.

We need your support to stop local history from being taken out of the hands of those who have it in their blood; those who live it and whose ancestors have lived it. Keep the stories from history authentic and honour what has gone before by allowing those who know it best, to be the ones to tell it.

Please sign our petition to ask the provincial government to reconsider the awarding of the contract, and reinstate Yale & District Historical Society as managers. Please share! Link in bio.

Yale Historic Site reflects on the past as we move forward. Despite its quiet appearance, the community of Yale has been home to uprisings, wars and a gold rush that has helped cement BC’s fascinating history. Today, the new brand for Yale Historic Site is unveiled. The branding pays homage to the miners, Chinese settlers, clergymen, and citizens that took their place among this treacherous landscape in search of gold, fortunes, and a place to call home. The new logo is a representation of our town, settled on the banks of the Fraser, with the golden sun drawing pioneers deeper into the Canyon. This marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Historic Site; one that looks to present the history through hands-on involvement and interactive learning, a history that is ripe with battles, wars, scoundrels, miscreants, and gold miners.

The Yale Historic Site is opening early July along with The Ward Tea House. The Johnny Ward Guest House is now open and taking reservations. Visit our website for updates: www.historicyale.ca
