Painting, drawing, collage, pottery. The act of expressing your creativity has the potential to reduce your stress, help you focus, and get you in
the state of FLOW. As children we were introduced to many different forms of art. I will do that with the children, teens and adults as there is a clear intention in presenting these experiences. Art can calm the nerves and improve reasoning and teamwork skills, all while increasing attention and motivation. But most importantly of all: art provides us with meaning. Some Benefits of doing Art are:
1. Calming and Relaxing
Art is used a lot in clinical therapy due to its effectiveness in relieving stress. While drawing, for example, your thoughts quiet down and you experience a clearer mind to work with. Taking your mind off some of the problems that plague you is the first step in the path to recovery.
2. That State Of Flow
We have come to understand that there is a certain quality that comes when you experience a clear mind. This heightened state is incredibly beneficial to us. Being in a state of flow is the act of being so engrossed into what you are doing that you enter a meditative state. Art provides the way to this meditative state.
3.It Develops Core Skills
Critical thinking, Focus, Problem Solving, Thinking Outside the Box, Leadership, Competence, Teamwork, Relaxation, Motivation, Joy, Creativity, Foresight,, Develops Reasoning Skills, Builds Confidence, Independence, Interdependence, Self Awareness....
4. Makes You More Attentive
According to the Dana Foundation, an organization that supports brain research through grants, publications, and educational programs, engaging in 5 minutes daily of artistic endeavours over the course of 30 days has been shown to increase the motivation and attention spans of children 4-6. Our brains, at any age, could use the benefit of art from this.
5.Builds Healthy Habits
Beneficial acts that are carried out routinely are considered good habits. Art can play an important role in a life full of responsibilities. We all deserve downtime, and art can provide you with exactly what you need in this area. Even a few minutes a day put towards this hobby will leave you with life altering effects. Everyone has a "style" unique to them in art. Everyone's art style is of value. It is learning to embrace your style, through exploring art that will bring many more benefits.
6. Exploration, Connection, Learning
ART is not about judgment...it is about exploration and learning about ourselves and each other. Exploring different mediums, different art styles, different canvases, different colours.... Looking at the uniqueness of a composition helps us learn to connect with ourselves and with others. Come over and benefit from exploring art with me. Ranges from doing art since around 6 years old to facilitating art experiences for different ages, having art exhibitions, going to art shows, doing art for others. Limited class sizes each day.
