Woodstock Museum National Historic Site The Woodstock Museum NHS is a community museum owned and operated by the City of Woodstock, Ontario.

The Woodstock Museum National Historic Site strives to interpret the past, present and future through conservation, education and exhibition of local history. Visit the nationally designated Old Town Hall and experience the original 1879 Council chambers and the Victorian designs of the 1889 Grand Hall. Tour our galleries interpreting the History of Woodstock from the 1790's to the present day. Originally constructed in 1853 as the Town Hall and Market House, the building was completely restored in 1993-1995 and offers a wide variety of programs and services.

CoW Tales Throwback Thursday: We’re continuing to share stories from the Museum’s Woodstock 125 anniversary exhibit, which explores some of city’s defining milestones, stories and achievements through the decades.

1920s: Homecoming and Diamond Jubilee

In 1927, the community came together to celebrate the Old Boys’ and Girls’ Reunion, a large-scale homecoming event, along with the Diamond Jubilee of Canadian Confederation. The festivities took place from June 30 to July 4 and included fairground exhibits, sightseeing tours, performances, sports, games, fireworks and parades.

CoW Tales Throwback Thursday: We’re continuing to share stories from the Museum’s Woodstock 125 anniversary exhibit, which explores some of city’s defining milestones, stories and achievements through the decades.

1930s: Depression and Recovery

The Great Depression hit Woodstock with high levels of unemployment. Although many businesses struggled, several also managed to grow and even endure the global economic crisis. Firestone Cotton Mills of Canada opened on Aug. 23, 1936. It would become an important contributor to the city’s economic recovery, manufacturing of tire cord and industrial textile products.

CoW Tales Throwback Thursday: For October, we’re continuing to share stories from the Museum’s Woodstock 125 anniversary exhibit, which explores some of city’s defining milestones, stories and achievements through the decades.

1940s: HMCS Woodstock

The HMCS Woodstock was a flower-class corvette commissioned by the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War. It was named for Woodstock, Ontario, in honour of the community’s financial contributions to the war effort. The ship was launched in 1941 and participated in several significant operations, including the D-Day invasion, on June 6, 1944. It remained in service until it was decommissioned on January 27, 1945.

Sept. 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. On Friday, the Woodstock Museum joined our community to raise the Every Child Matters flag in Museum Square.

Today and everyday we encourage you take action towards reconciliation by learning about the history and legacy of residential schools in Canada. Here are a few resources you can explore in and around Woodstock.

Update (2:45 p.m.): Debit machines are back up and running at recreation and culture facilities.

City recreation and culture facilities are currently experiencing issues with their debit machine terminals. Credit card payments can be entered manually, however debit card payments cannot be processed.

The affected locations include Cowan Park Sportsplex, Southside Aquatic Centre, the Parks Department office, Woodstock Art Gallery and Woodstock Museum.

Staff are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible and we will provide an update when they are back up and running.

In honour of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (NDTR) on Sept. 30, 2026, the City of Woodstock invites all residents to come together, learn and take action towards reconciliation in our community.

The Every Child Matters Flag will be raised in Museum Square on Friday, Sept. 25 at 9:30 a.m.
Following the flag raising, the Woodstock Art Gallery will be hosting a reception in partnership with Two Row Culture and Community Centre.

The 2nd Annual Truth and Reconciliation March, organized by Two Row Culture and Community Centre, will also be taking place this Sunday, Sept. 27 from 12 – 5 p.m. in Museum Square.

NDTR additionally coincides with Orange Shirt Day, an Indigenous-led grassroots movement inspired by the story of residential school survivor Phyllis Webstad. Orange shirts are available to purchase at the Woodstock Museum National Historic Site.
