We found this quote of Metis experiences of displacement here in Winnipeg & surrounding areas at the human rights museum yesterday. It is an important moment in our history that everyone should know about. It reflected what many of us are feeling and experiencing as we face so many fires in our neighbourhood.

"You know, we get kicked out of one place we pack up and move, they burn our houses down and we go someplace else. And it's really hard to preserve a place when you're constantly losing things to fire."

Visit Ross House for our first event of the season: Doors Open Winnipeg! 🏡🚪

Ross House is one of the oldest homes in Winnipeg, and served as the first official Post Office in Western Canada. It was built in 1854 for William and Jemima Ross, members of a prominent MĂ©tis family. Their carefully restored log home offers visitors an immersive look into daily life in early Manitoba.

Check out the Black Canadian Experience Centre's pop up exhibit at 226 Main Street, titled "Train Track Tributaries: Waves of Connection on the Black Prairie", curated by Elliot Walsh and Celina Clements.

Opening reception is 11-5pm this Saturday (May 23), but the exhibit will be up until May 30.
