Hello everyone, Just when you thought you heard the last from us here we are. Just wanted to remind everyone that you can still shop on line by visiting our on line galleries at www.bulrushesgallery.ca . Our on line galleries feature a wonderful collection of fine art and everything is 25% off the list price. While we are now off enjoying new adventures we have decided to re-open the gallery for two weekends only next summer. These weekends will coincide with the WAVE and Proutopia. We will not be available to open by appointment. We are sort of like the Rolling Stones so consider this our second annual good by tour. Here are two examples of some of the great art still available on line.

• Rudolf Bikkers RCA. Born in 1943 in the Netherlands , Bikkers was the youngest student to enter the prestigious Jan Van Eych Academy in Maastricht on a six year scholarship. He graduated with honours and emigrated to Canada in 1966. He taught art and became chair of the printmaking Dept. at Fanshawe College and later Chair of Printmaking at the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto. He has participated in over 23 solo exhibitions and 20 group exhibitions in Canada, the U.S., Europe, Africa, China and Japan. He was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 2000 and received the Queens Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002. His works are in major public collections across Canada. This wonderful and original abstract is a monoprint so it is a one of a kind.

• Willem Hendriks (1888 – 1966) . This well-known Dutch artist is one of my favorite landscape painters. His works regularly come up for sale at major auction houses, including the likes of Christies, where they sell for anywhere from 1,200.00 to 1,500.00. A very similar piece by Hendriks is currently for sale in London with a list price of 4,950.00 pounds or the equivalent of $8,500.00 Canadian. This beautiful pastoral landscape is priced at 950.00.

Have a wonderful fall. Tim

Only two more weekends before Bulrushes Gallery closes for good and our one third off sale continues. This week we are featuring works by two exceptional and important American artists and one fabulous and very well-known Manitoba artist. Zoltan Szabo is perhaps the finest and most recognized American watercolourist of this century. Born in 1928 in Hungary he immigrated to the U.S. and went on to write countless books on watercolour painting. This award winning artists’ works are recognized as being among the finest watercolours anywhere. The piece we are showing you today is so light, delicate and graceful, a joy to behold. This work is priced well below fair market value at only 395.00 before the 33% discount. Tom Lynch is another well-known and popular American watercolourist and teacher. He has given workshops on watercolour painting all over North America. His style is very different from Szabo’s as he uses a heavier watercolour and rich jewel tone colours. The piece we show here is priced at 350.00 before the discount. Finally we have two works by well-known Manitoba artist Caroline Dukes. Dukes had a national reputation and was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Artists. Her works are in numerous public collections including the Museum of Human Rights. We are showing here one of pair of abstract linocut monoprints. Each is priced at 350.00 before the current discount. Hope you enjoyed this week’s selection. Tim

More often than not when we send out our pics of the week we showcase works by well-known Manitoba and Canadian artist. But there are so many fantastic artists who never got the attention they deserved. Wonderful artists who just loved to paint and who had real talent but who were never promoted like many of their contemporaries. Today we feature two such gifted but less well-known Manitoba artists. Betty Malkin and Manly Geller were two wonderful Winnipeg artists. Their works as shown here where painted with joy, boldness and filled with colour and life. I love them. The first image is by Malkin, titled “Farmers Market” and measures 25 x 35 inches framed. It is priced at 350.00 before the 33% off sale we are currently offering. The Geller abstract landscape measures 28 x 34 and is priced at 225.00 before the 33% discount. Only three more weekends before we close our doors and shut down Bulrushes Gallery. See you soon, Tim

After five years Don and I have decided to close the Gallery at the end of this season. After the September long weekend Bulrushes Gallery will cease operations. Until we close the doors and turn out the lights forever all art, with the exception of our new contemporary artists, will be on sale at one third off our already incredibly low list prices. There are hundreds of great Canadian original works of art to choose from so don’t miss out on this rare opportunity. You’ll never find this quality of art again at these incredible prices.

This week we are featuring two works by two very special and internationally renowned Canadian artists.

Rita Caiserman-Roth RCA (1923 – 2005) . One of Canada’s most important 20th century female artists, Caiserman-Roth was a founder of the Montreal Artists School and has works in the National Gallery of Canada. She was also the first painter to receive the Governor Generals Award for Visual Media and Art. Her works are represented in all the major public collections in Canada and are much sought after by collectors of fine Canadian art. This original colour lithograph is fabulous containing many wonderful images and representations within its borders. This piece has never before been on view in the gallery and is titled “Open Window”. The piece it is beautifully framed and would have been priced at 750.00 but now available for only 495.00. Don’t pass this one up!

Simon Shegelman. Simon Shegelman is a Russian Postwar & Contemporary painter who was born in 1933. He studied at the Latvian Academy of Fine Arts where he graduated with distinction and honours. Until the mid-1970’s his works were widely exhibited in Russia, the Baltic States, Berlin, Dresden, Prague, Warsaw and Helsinki. He left Russia in 1975 to escape political persecution and immigrated to Canada in 1976. He worked and lived in Winnipeg, Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa. His works are highly regarded and often have Judaic themes. This fantastic oil on paper measures 31 x 26 inches framed. With an estimate value of $3,000.00 it was priced at 750.00 but is now $495.00. This is one of two works we have by this artist.

And while you’re out and about be sure to visit Steina’s in Gimli, its sure to delight. See you at the exhibition. Tim
