With your continued support we're able to continue to operate our fleet of vintage aircraft, museum facilities and move further along with our two restoration proj

ects to honor those of the past and educate future generations. The Canadian Aviation Museum, was officially incorporated as a non-profit organization in March, 1995. We fly vintage aircraft, display historical artifacts, educate the public, and actively restore vintage aircraft. We operate out of a WW2 era hangar built at the Windsor Airport in 1941 to house #7 Elementary Flying Training School which was part of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. Our current airworthy fleet which is flown regularly consists of a Boeing Stearman, a CC&F Harvard Mk.4 as well as two DeHavilland Chipmunks. Along with our airworthy aircraft, we have a CT-133 Silver Star and Fleet Fawn on static display in our facility. We currently have two restoration projects: The first being a WW2 era deHavilland Mosquito which is being built almost entirely from scratch to current aviation standards and specifications. The second, the City of Windsors Avro Lancaster Mk. X - FM212, which is to be restored to its original condition in 1945. Come by and step into the past where we honor and preserve the history of the greatest generation and nation!

Today marks the 80th anniversary of the first flight of the Chipmunk in Ontario.

Following the end of World War II, aviation companies in Canada wanted to take advantage of a newfound era of peace and construct brand new planes to replace aging ones. de Havilland Canada was one such company and they settled on building a revolutionary trainer plane known as the Chipmunk. The Chipmunk's first flight took place on May 22, 1946 over Toronto, Ontario. It was manufactured at de Havilland Canada's assembly plant at Toronto's Downview airport. As a trainer aircraft, its sole purpose was to train new recruits for the Royal Canadian Air Force. It also acted as a replacement for the now outdated trainer, the Tiger Moth biplane. The United Kingdom also took an interest in the Chipmunk aircraft; they purchased a fleet of airframes in 1948 and the first British Chipmunk began official service with the Royal Air Force on November 14, 1949. The DHC-1 Chipmunk was a revolutionary milestone in aviation history, as it spearheaded the fundamental transition from the traditional wood-and-fabric construction of primary trainers to the modern era of stressed-skin, all-metal monoplane designs.

We are saddened to hear that the Snowbirds Demonstration Team will be standing down following the 2026 season as the legendary CT-114 Tutor era comes to an end. For decades, the Snowbirds have inspired Canadians from coast to coast and proudly represented the very best of Canadian aviation.

For many of us involved in aviation, seeing and hearing the Snowbirds perform has always brought a tremendous sense of pride. While the aircraft itself is iconic, the true strength of the team has always been the people behind it — the pilots, technicians, and support personnel whose professionalism and dedication made the Snowbirds respected ambassadors for Canada.

As Windsorites, we are especially proud to have had two hometown Snowbirds represent Canada with distinction — Major Bassam “Sam” Mnaymneh and Captain Padruig MacIntosh.

The Canadian Aviation Museum proudly salutes the men and women of our Canadian Snowbirds demonstration team and we are looking forward to the 2030 air show season in their new CT-157 Siskin II.
