Using our own software, we can generate a mosaic design in detail, based on original photos, scans, drawings , to give an impressionistic representation of the original (subject to copyright of the original). It is not possible to generate a photo-realistic impression of the original, although the bigger the mosaic, the more detail can be shown. Rather, the mosaic design will attempt to capture the essence of the original subject in "impressionism" style. Types of Images
You can upload a variety of common image formats, including those from digital cameras and scanners, as well as some from drawing programs. This allows you to use painting/drawing programs to make your own patterns, borders or corporate logo's. For an interesting mosaic that has something everywhere you look, try making a montage/collage of bits from your photos. You could try your holiday snaps, pictures of yourself, your family, kids or grandkids, animals, plants, buildings, landcapes, classical artwork - the list is endless. If you are an enthusiast with a particular passion, whether it be pigeons, Koi carp, trains, planes, cars, bikes, horses, dogs, cats, fishing, hunting, football, golf, sports, gardening, cooking, dolls or anything else, you can create your own custom mosaic based on that passion. Selecting an Image
Not all images can be successfully made into mosaics - a lot of the detail and subtlety of colour changes is lost. The main features of the image need to be quite bold and well defined to appear in the mosaic (try viewing your image at a distance to see what features are still visible). Many beautiful images are reliant on the sharpness of detail or the subtlety of colour changes for their attraction - many sunset scenes for example. Once the colours and details are reduced, all that is left are wide bands or blocks of individual colours. Tile size
Currently there are one tile size available, 10mm, but with variations in the colours available. The smaller 10mm tile is the default, having 4 x the tiles for a given area it provides the greatest detail in a mosaic. When viewing the mosaic from a position close to the mosaic, you tend to see the individual coloured tiles rather than the overall design. To see the full effect of the mosaic design often requires the ability to step back, and view from some distance . For small viewing distances (such as the walls/floors of corridors/hallways) a colourful pattern in 10mm tiles would be suggested. Specification
Mosaic Tiles:10mm x 10mm x 3-4mm thick epoxy tiles,, they are frost proof and waterproof, UVA, shatter and fade resistant. This makes them suitable for use inside and outside, including home/office walls and floors, garage and garden walls, paths, patios and swimming pools. Tile Sheets:
The mosaic is supplied pre-prepared in sheet form. The tiles are attached to a strong fibreglass mesh. The whole sheet can be tiled in one go, including the mesh, similar to traditional single colour mosaic tile sheets. Installation
Ready for self tiling, or by your local tiler. Mesh side first, into the tile adhesive on your levelled wall/floor. Once the adhesive has set, grout as usual. Installed size can be affected by installation and other factors, so allow a typical ± 1% tolerance. Note: the thickness of these tiles at 3-4mm may be less than any surrounding tiles, so giving a recessed effect to your picture. This can be avoided by skimming with tile adhesive and allowing to set, which is also recommended to level the surface. A good quality White, flexible, waterproof tile adhesive, suitable for small vitreous glass tiles is recommended. Grout should be suitable for small grout lines between vitreous glass tiles, anti-mould, waterproof and flexible, in the colour of your choice. Light-medium grey is most common, providing a neutral background for tiles of many colours, however there are a wide range of colour grouts available. The grout colour can be chosen to lighten or darken the overall mosaic, to contrast or colourise the tone of the mosaic. Use the grout colour dropdown (above) to view representations of your mosaic with other grout colours. Floor installation (pedestrian areas only) requires more careful substrate preparation and the use of suitable adhesives and grouts. Despite the durability of the glass tiles, floor mosaics in areas of excessively heavy traffic, such as public entrances to offices, will be subject to wear and will require increased maintenance. We can supply a full spares pack with your mosaic, including agreed numbers of spare tiles of each colour and a detailed design plan for repairs. Finish Quality Note:
This is a Home Studio crafted product. Every due care and attention is taken to ensure a high quality product with a professional finish. All tiles are hand-made. As part of our quality control procedures, all tiles are visually checked prior to product assembly. Tile mounting to mesh are carried out by hand, inevitably resulting in minor variations in tile positions, orientation, alignment etc. Such variations and irregularities only add to the artistic charm of our completed mosaics. In placing an order, you are instructing us to proceed with the provision of a design, procurement, manufacturing and assembly process that results in the delivered product, such process to begin immediately.
