We have represented Cameron Bird since the early days of his career, with his recent Spotlight we thought it would be fun to dig through the archives for old photos of Cam over the years. Over 20 years and he hasn’t changed a bit!

Painting professionally at 17, Cameron met Canadian artist Keith C. Smith in 1989, who became a great teacher and mentor to him. Keith always taught Cameron to simplify and make each brush stroke count. Following in the footsteps of Keith, he worked as a packhorse guide in the Chilcotin Mountains. Cameron used this experience in the wilderness to provide him with first-hand material and references for his paintings. Prior to Keith C. Smith’s passing in 2000, the artist wrote a letter to Cameron encouraging him to “carry on where I have left off in this wonderful world of art and creation”.

Created using reclaimed telephone cable, these works by Janis Woode celebrate the invisible connections that bind us together across time and distance. Every cable carried an unknowable history - a quiet archive of conversations, laughter, comfort, silence and love.

We’re excited to share some new pieces from sculptor Janis Woode recently. Janis Woode Metal Sculptor

Janis works from her home studio and creates sculptures reflecting on the human existence. Janis credits her long work experience in health care as the source for many of her artistic inspirations. She says, “This work has given me special insight into the human experience. My hope is that my sculpture draws a common thread for the viewer, a thread that ties us together as people no matter how individual our experiences may be.”

‘Even If’ reflects on faith and surrender, and how sometimes we have no control over outcomes of situations and the idea of acceptance regarding how the chips may fall.

‘Calling Home’ is inspired by many of the people in Janis’ life that live miles and miles away. The telephone has helped in keeping them close and these pieces using reclaimed cables are a celebration of calls made and connections cherished.
