Featured Boutique Artist: Barbara Kaminsky from Barbara Kaminsky Art

Barbara is a Manitoba Artist who began her journey though art with watercolour then later switched to acrylic paints. Barbara is drawn to impressionistic works where you can make out the intended image, but it is not crystal clear. She uses texture to accomplish abstraction and interest in her work. Barbara is often inspired by the landscapes, skies, lakes and fields of rural Manitoba.

Visit the Wasagaming Community Arts Gallery to explore Barbara’s works in person.

Artist Feature: Lisa Whitehouse

Lisa Whitehouse is a Winnipeg-born artist whose work is inspired by a lifelong connection to the outdoors. Growing up camping, exploring nature, and surrounded by animals, she developed a deep appreciation for wildlife that continues to shape her practice today.

After returning to painting in 2015 while staying home to raise her three children, she quickly transformed her creative practice into a vibrant, full-time passion. Working under Whitehouse Art, Lisa is known for her bold, expressive style—bright, splashy colour and energetic compositions that capture the playful spirit and personality of animals and pets.

Her work brings a sense of joy and warmth, turning everyday moments and familiar creatures into uplifting visual stories shared through prints and licensing around the world.

Artist Feature: Textile and Fibre Artists of Manitoba (TFAM)

TFAM’s exhibition Dual Impressions explores the unique ways artists interpret shared ideas through fibre art. Working in pairs, artists selected a common theme and created individual works designed to be displayed side by side, revealing contrasting perspectives, techniques, materials, and emotional responses.

The result is a dynamic and cohesive collection that celebrates both collaboration and artistic individuality, offering viewers an opportunity to experience the diversity and creativity within Manitoba’s fibre art community.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the opening reception of our first exhibition this past weekend. We’re so grateful to the artists currently on display and to everyone who came out to celebrate their work with us.

The exhibition features the bold, joy filled paintings of Lisa Whitehouse, the collaborative fibre art explorations of the TFAM collective in Dual Impressions, and the layered mixed media works of Nigerian Canadian artist Oluuji. We were especially thrilled to have three TFAM artists attend and share the story behind their work.

The exhibition runs until June 16.
