Wakaw Lake has always been one of Wakaw's greatest attractions, with a large percentage of the appeal coming from the Wakaw Lake Regional Park.
The first steps toward a regional park were taken in 1960 when the government of Saskatchewan introduced the Regional Parks Program, which intended to create more recreational facilities in Saskatchewan. By 1963, Wakaw proposed the program's benefits to nearby municipalities and villages, leading to the creation of the Wakaw Lake Regional Park Authority in 1965. With this, the spark was set and dozens of hard-working volunteers cleared many acres of soon-to-be parkland. In the years following the grand opening in 1970, the park has been enjoyed by thousands of visitors each summer, all thanks to the action and labour taken by numerous groups, volunteers, and workers throughout the years.
