Don't fret! You still have time to go to the "Beach" exhibition at the Ministry of Casual Living at 750 Fairfield Rd, the last day is this Saturday (1-4pm), come check out all of the amazing work from our open call.

A big shout out to the artists who displayed their work, the pieces we received are dynamic and show us the creator's interpretation of the beach theme. We are pleased to report that some red stickers landed on a handful of work and we are super grateful to the patrons who came out to support local artists! All sales go entirely to the artists.

About "Cyber Decay":
“Cyber Decay” explores apocalyptic visuals that highlight the contradictions within urban spaces, responding to and protesting the current political climate. The exhibition illustrates a colourful and
fantastical, but dying world, using paints, digital art softwares, and found objects to portray apocalyptic landscapes that criticises the decline of society. Examining the intersection between naive idealism and optimistic nihilism in regards to environmental, urban, and societal issues. The group raised on internet, urbanization, and fantasy- uses visual storytelling to rebel against this
decaying world to express their deep dissatisfaction with systemic failures.

About the Artists:
Riyanna, Erin, Monica, and Yisu are a group of Emily Carr University of Art + Design alumni that have been working together on class assignments and personal projects since 2023. Their bodies of work feature themes of urbanism, criticism of the status quo, fantasy, and whatever weird/nerdy
hyperfixation they are obsessing over at the time.

About our Guest Curator:

Mads Elia is a multi-disciplinary artist and educator living on the unceded K'omox territory. Mads is a MoCL alumnus (studio member & BOD) from the 2018-2020 Art Club era.

Mads is working through the invisible influences casting shadows and dripping sauce on their worldview; sharp stones, industry smoke, tomato ragu, gold glitter, and ofcourse existential guilt.

Mads is interested in breaking aesthetic expectations, ambiguity, and the apocalypse. They are thrilled about the show and want to wish all a joy filled Pride!

Words from our featured speaker, Tamara MacIntyre:
“I have never had the privilege of not knowing that death is part of life. My father died when I was twenty-one, and that knowledge has shaped everything — including what I make with my hands. Before willow, I was a potter. I loved form and purpose, but clay leaves a mark on the earth long after it is needed. Willow does not. It smells alive when you work it. It has a rhythm. It asks you to slow down and pay attention — and then, when its purpose is complete, it simply returns. That is the point.
We are all going. The question is what we leave behind, and what we choose to give back.”

About our featured performer, Stone MacBeth:
Stone MacBeth is a local artist and writer. MacBeth’s work explores grief and loss through the lens of trauma, familial ties, and identity.

We are delighted to invite you to the opening of “Good Grief” on Thursday, April 30th, 5-8PM!
This multimedia group exhibition features over fifty regional and international artists and offers us the opportunity to witness, hold space for, and connect over our experiences of grief through the language of art. Artists in this exhibition explore grief in many forms; The loss of a pet, the loss of a parent, losing a partner through separation, environmental loss, loss of self through various life stages, and so much more.

Opening: Thursday, April 30th, 5-8PM.
Gallery Hours:
Thursdays: 5-8PM
Saturdays: 1-4PM
Until May 30th.

The artwork featured on the “Good Grief” poster is a still from a WIP film created by Isaac Forsland, titled "Portrait of Linda” (2026). The 16mm film captures several frames from Forsland’s grandma’s ashes under a microscope. Forsland is an emerging experimental filmmaker based on the unceded lands of the xwməθkwəy̓ əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. “Portait of Linda” is one of ten films featured in the “Good Grief” Exhibition.
