Vernon Cadet Camp Museum

Vernon Cadet Camp Museum In the summer of 2013, the doors opened to the cadets in a modest and limited showing of the cadet camp history.

The Vernon Cadet Camp Museum is managed and operated by the Vernon Military History Society (VMHS), and is dedicated to the preservation of Military and Cadet history in the Vernon area. In 2009 and upon the suggestion from the late LCol Terry Kopan, Francois Arseneault began the task of documenting and acquiring artifacts for display at the Vernon Cadet Training Centre for the purpose of sharing

this history with cadets who attended the camp in the summer. The original mail room, a 900 square foot building, became the museum. The museum is located to the south side of Patricia Way when entering the camp via way a RV Papa. The Museum was created in conjunction with the Cadet Training Centre and the Grater Vernon Musuem and Archives (GVMA) to assist in the presentation and education of the Cadet Program in Canada. In 2018 the Vernon Military History Society was formed to assist in the development of this museum. The VMHS role is to assist in the fundraising, rotation of displays, public education, documentation and preservation of the Canadian Cadet Program in Canada as well as the history of the Vernon Military Camp. While the building is the property of the camp all items and displays within the building are the property of private collectors, VMHS or the GVMA.

100% of all funding is through donations, grants or through kit shop sales. The Vernon Cadet Camp Museum would not be possible without the assistance of the GVMA, VMHS, DND and the volunteers who work tirelessly to run the museum. We respectfully acknowledge that the Vernon Cadet Camp Museum is located on the Ancestral, Traditional and Unceded Territory of the Okanagan Nation and the Syilx People.

It is with great sadness that we share the news that our former Formation Chief, now Lieutenant-Commander, David Bliss, MMM, CD has passed away.

LCdr Bliss dedicated his life to the service of Canada: first through a distinguished career in the Royal Canadian Navy and later as a steadfast leader within our Cadets and Junior Canadian Rangers Group. Initially an Army Cadet with 1913-RCACC, underwater weapon specialist with the Navy, the Pacific Fleet Chief Petty Officer, Regional and Formation Chief, David’s unwavering commitment, professionalism, and mentorship left an indelible mark on our organization and on the lives of countless cadets, JCR, COATS, League members, and CAF colleagues across this country. He will be missed, but his legacy will be enduring.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to the Bliss family and to all those who knew David and are impacted by this loss.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of LCdr David Bliss, who recently retired from the role of Formation Chief.

LCdr Dave Bliss was a dedicated leader who served with integrity, humility, and an unwavering commitment to the Canadian Cadet Organizations. His recent retirement from Chief marked the end of a remarkable career devoted to developing youth and supporting the Cadet Instructor Cadre across the formation.

His leadership, mentorship, and passion for service left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege to work alongside him. Chief Bliss will be greatly missed by his colleagues, friends, and the countless cadets whose lives he influenced throughout his career.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family, friends, and all who mourn his loss.

Rest easy, Sir. Your service and legacy will not be forgotten.”
