We are so very excited for visitors to come and see our latest exhibition, Becoming: The Art of Gu Xiong starting tomorrow, May 28 and through February 7, 2027.

The exhibition traces the evolution of Gu Xiong’s artistic practice and the major influences that defined it. An internationally recognized multidisciplinary artist, Gu works across mediums, including painting, sculpture, photography, video, and site-specific installations. His work redefines how we understand migration, hybridity, and globalization.

Highlights include Enclosures (1989-2026), an installation not seen since the 1989 China/Avant-Garde Exhibition; the Crushed Cans painting and silkscreen print series (1991-93), an embodiment of Gu’s experience with culture shock; and Yellow Cargo (2016-26) a large-scale installation that explores globalization through the lens of migrant workers in Canada.

On Thursday, June 18th, the Museum of Vancouver’s former Board Chair, Bruce Granville Miller, will present a lecture reflecting on repatriation and the evolving role museums play in this ongoing work.

Drawing from decades of collaboration with Coast Salish communities, Bruce will share stories from repatriation efforts undertaken by the MOV alongside Indigenous partners. He will also discuss his research into the lasting impacts of museum collecting practices and the return of ancestors to their homelands.

Although the yoga class on Sunday, May 24 at the Museum of Vancouver is sold out, there are still tickets available for the June 7th class! Held in our Joyce Walley Room, which offers awe-inspiring view as the backdrop, this session will be restorative and gentle. Plus it includes access to the galleries so you can explore the MOV after.

The June 7th class will be led by Linh Jiang, but our crab friend probably won't be there.

We’re asking you—MOV lovers, fans, and friends—to become a sustainable source of funding for the Museum of Vancouver. Our goal is to get just 26 people to donate $26 a month, by May 26th, 2026—that’s less than a week away!

The MOV hasn’t received an increase in operational funding in more than two decades. To find savings, the Museum’s employees have taken a 20% cut in hours and wages for the first half of 2026.

But MOV staff are still hard at work to bring you the exhibitions, programs and educational experiences you value. The MOV introduces Vancouver to the world and reflects Vancouver back to its neighbours every day.

Become a stable source of funding for the MOV. Become a monthly donor. Visit our website to make a donation museumofvancouver.ca/donate-now and keep history alive at the MOV!

Thanks for for this video!

There are new snacks in the MOV Gift Shop from the Greater Vancouver Food Bank!

We are selling their new freeze-dried snacks in the gift shop! Today their Strawberry Burst, Apple Fries and Maple BBQ Zucchini Chips are in stock, but items are seasonally made, so will change regularly.

Reducing food waste fits perfectly with the MOV’s “Environment & Sustainability” pillar—plus your purchase of the snacks will support the GVFB and the MOV! And you get a tasty treat made from BC produce from BC farmers! It’s a win-win-win!

Thanks to Bruce McPherson for the photo of the Food Bank table where samples of the freeze-dried snacks were handed out at April's Haha, History! event.
