Lattimer Gallery

Lattimer Gallery Lattimer Gallery specializes in Native Art and jewellery of the Northwest Coast and is located near Vancouver's beautiful Granville Island.

Lattimer Gallery has the unique, warm atmosphere of a Northwest Longhouse. We offer a fascinating display of gold and silver jewellery, argillite carvings, soapstone sculptures, bentwood boxes, masks, totem poles, and much more. In our "longhouse" we also feature a large selection of original paintings and limited edition prints by many well known Native artists. We want you to be swept away by the selection and quality of art that we house here at Lattimer Gallery.

For many centuries, spoons and ladles have been a staple of Northwest Coast art and culture, serving both ceremonial and functional purposes.

They are a significant form within many Northwest Coast cultures, which is why the spoon shape has made its way into a variety of materials and sizes. Small silver spoons have become beautiful, unique keepsakes and collectible items, like this silver “Eagle” spoon by Nisga’a artist Norman Tait. Norman sadly passed away ten years ago and his work is becoming increasingly difficult to find.

This spoon is available for purchase for $1,200.00 CAD. Visit our website or DM to inquire.

It is with deep sadness and respect that I share the passing of Bradley Hunt, a beloved Heiltsuk artist and cultural leader whose life and work had a profound impact on Indigenous art in British Columbia and beyond. Bradley passed away on September 2, 2025.

Bradley was born in Bella Bella, a proud member of the Heiltsuk Nation, and was central to the revitalization of Heiltsuk art. His mastery in carving, painting, and design inspired a generation of artists, including his sons Shawn and Dean, who continue in his footsteps.

On behalf of Lattimer Gallery, I want to express our gratitude for the opportunity we had to work with Bradley and represent his work over the years. His artistry, mentorship, and generosity enriched our gallery and the broader community, and we are honoured to have been part of sharing his vision.

I would also like to acknowledge Bradley’s contributions to our annual Bentwood Box Charity Auction in support of the Urban Native Youth Association. Between 2011 and 2016, his participation in the early years of the event helped create the momentum that has allowed this initiative to thrive. Today, thanks in part to his support, the event is nearing the milestone of one million dollars raised for Indigenous youth programs. We will always be grateful for the role he played in helping us build that legacy.

To his wife Karen, and to his sons Shawn and Dean, we extend our heartfelt condolences. Bradley’s presence, spirit, and work will be deeply missed, but his influence will continue through the art, the traditions, and the lives he touched.

I apologize for not sharing this acknowledgement sooner on our social media platforms. We recognize that Bradley deserved to be honoured in every way possible, and we regret this oversight.

Bradley Hunt’s legacy will endure as a shining example of the power of art to carry forward culture, connect people, and inspire future generations.

🎉 We’re excited to welcome two new curators to the Vancouver Art Gallery team!

Please join us in celebrating the appointments of Dr. Adrienne Fast as Audain Associate Curator of BC Art and Dr. Camille Georgeson-Usher as Audain Senior Curatorial Advisor on Indigenous Art.

These roles reflect the Gallery’s deep and ongoing commitment to British Columbian and Indigenous art, ensuring that vital expertise in both areas is embedded in the Gallery’s curatorial vision, shaping ambitious exhibitions and guiding strategic acquisitions for the permanent collection.

These appointments have been made possible through the support of the Audain Foundation, whose longstanding relationship with the Vancouver Art Gallery has been instrumental in advancing the study and presentation of art from BC. The Gallery's Audain Curator of British Columbia Art position—established through this partnership—has now evolved into the two roles announced today, reflecting the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to supporting the Gallery’s vision.

“The Woman Taken by Sg_aan“ by Haida artist Alyson Bell Xúndaaya. We can’t get over the precision of her lines 🤩

Alyson says:

“A hunter killed a sea otter and forgot to thank it for its life. When he gifted it to his wife the otter came back to life and swam away. The wife jumped in after it and was captured by Sg_aan, who took her down to his village at the bottom of the sea.

An apprenticeship is a humbling experience because you realize how much you don’t know. I spent a lot of time trying to brainstorm something unique like the previous charity boxes I’ve seen. Eventually, after a conversation with a friend, I realized I need to stick to the classical form and so I challenged myself in creating fine detail.”
